Shopping list advice
Word up Slappers.
My compo claim for my shoulder came through the other week. It was more than I was expecting. My initial thought went to a track bike, but tbh I wouldn’t get the use out of it that I’d need to justify it, so I made a decision to bling up the Zed. And hire a bike for any trackdays in the future.
However, it wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t asking for other’s advice. If anyone has any suggestions about anything, please feel free to chime in.
Service – Desperately needed. I have no local knowledge of any places or people that can do a full service and fluid change, so at present I can only use t’internet which led me to Stourbridge Motorcycle Centre, amongst others. The website is decent but anyone have any first-hand experience of them? Or any other recommendations?
Chain and sprockets – Also desperately needed. I want a gold set. That’s as much knowledge of chains as I’ve got. Advice on makes is welcomed, and I’ve no idea about the difference between 520 and 525 or anything. I’m not after any change in teeth, I think. Maybe. Unless anyone can convince me otherwise?
Brake lines – I’m torn on these. Trying to minimise the amount of silver on the bike, I like the look of the Goodridge Shadows…
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorcycl ... eline-kits" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
…but I also like the look of the steel ones where you can see the braided hoses. I think Monty has a set on his. Something like this…
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorcycl ... e-line-kit" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Literally cannot make my mind up on this one.
Brake pads – I’ll probably need some new ones to go with the service. My knowledge goes as far as the fact that I need motorcycle ones!
Rear indicators – I think I’ve seen some Rizoma ones I like. The ones that came with the tail tidy are looking a bit shabby so it’s time to sort that out.
Brake reservoirs – Again, I’m thinking maybe something Rizoma-ish. Definitely front, probably rear as well.
Radiator guard – pretty sure I’m going with Evotech Performance for this.
Horn – OEM one has started to rust up. I fancied the idea of getting something like a Soundbomb…
http://www.rg-racing.com/browsetype/Denali_Sound/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
…but is it a bit over the top for something I’ve used probably 5 times in the last 3 years, 3 of those beeping goodbye to the family? I can get a replacement standard horn for less than a fiver, makes more sense?
Rearsets – At the moment I’m thinking Lightech…
http://www.lightechuk.com/lightech-kawa ... 1988-p.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But these Valtermoto ones are a possible option too…
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Product.d ... GwodoZQCZQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Any other ideas?
I’m also toying with getting a rear seat cowl and some carbon bits and pieces, but that might come down to costing.
And what I ideally want to finish it off is to powdercoat the wheels, ceramic coat the downpipes and get a pair of Urban Brawlers in black to finish the dark look. The exhausts, which I really like, would look daft with the pipes being silver/rusty, but to get the wheels, pipes and zorsts done probably wouldn’t be too far off 4 figures out of the bank account, just for those three things.
So these last two lots of items may have to go on the back burner.
As always, I’m open to suggestions, advice, banter and ideas.
And cake!

Re: Shopping list advice
Chain - 520 is lighter. I would stick with the 525 which is standard Afam, Renthal or Tsubaki for your chain.
I ordered one of these and they sent me a Renthal chain, which is more expensive http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Z1000-2011-Ts ... xyu1FRjXHY" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I like both of the brake lines you posted. Sorry If you go to the Goodridge facebook page and enter their competition you usually get an email with a discount code. If not call Bikerdiscountstore and get a discount. I would probably go with the dark ones to match the black bling.
Brake pads I use Bendix MRR. Sharp bite without being grabby.
Can I interest you in some grips http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-RIZOM ... Swl8NVgEig" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and bar ends? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-RIZOM ... SwUuFWxzB-" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I prefer the Valtermoto rearsets

Re: Shopping list advice
As for servicing there's Cradley Kawasaki which seems to have a good following but my only recent experience of them suggests that the customer service isn't the greatest. Give them a call and see how they treat you.
There's a guy on TDR who does powder coating,. He gets excellent reviews and seems to be well priced http://www.trackdayriders.co.uk/tdr/for ... 61917.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Shopping list advice
Not had anything serviced at Cradley Kawasaki but ordered some filters from them the other day and they we're cheap and arrived next day which was also a saturday using only their standard delivery which I was impressed with.
I like the lightech rearsets and nearly got a set for the zx10r. Good price and top quality.
I've had an EVO tech rad guard on both the Blade and the zx10r and been impressed with the quality.
You cant go wrong with Rizoma for indicators and reservoirs, quality and style second to none.

Re: Shopping list advice
I'm in utter shock and disbelief, who has hijacked kwacky's account..
That was two whole posts in a thread spending someone else's money and he didn't type the word Rizoma, even when the OP mentioned it on more than one occasion
Personally I prefer the Lightec rearsets, and ditch the horn in favour of some properly loud cans Since fitting the loud cans to mine i've never needed the horn

Itchy your clearly looking to spend a large chunk of money in a oner.
Has changing bike been considered or are you happy with the big ZEDthou and happy on upgrading your current ride ?

I'm happy really, the bike does everything I need it to, I guess that's why the mods are mainly cosmetic ones. I mean, never say never but I'm still loving the bike right now so no rush to change it.Blade wrote:Itchy your clearly looking to spend a large chunk of money in a oner.

And it doesn't all necessarily have to happen at once, it may turn into a winter project to keep me tinkering away. It depends how much I can convince the missus to let me blow on it and how much "I" want to save!

Yeah understood mate. I was just thinking the kind of money your spending with the big z1000 as a px you could be on a very nice Tuono V4.
Staying on the "Don't trade, Upgrade" theme I think these would look good on your bike.

Re: Shopping list advice
FWIW, I tried the Rizoma brake reservoir and didn't like it....it needed a custom bracket thing, cost money to make the bike heavier and my wallet lighter....PITA to install, etc......one of those things I wish I'd never bothered with.....plus you can't even check the fluid level easily....WTF is up with that??
More BS you don't need.
Gold chain & sprockets?? Are you chillin' in da hood?? Gold is for dentists and American rappers with bad dress sense (ie. all of them).....they make people go "Oh look, that dude just bought some aftermarket sh*t"....and that's about the only purpose they have, if that.
ad infinitum...
Like Kwacky wrote...Bendix for brake pads...although personally I find they only slow me down....
Trackbikes are fun, even if you don't use them much. With a hire bike you get the fun of maybe learning a new bike AND a new track in 20 minutes (if you last that long...).
Horn rusty?? They're $10...end of. (Bonus points if you actually have the balls to use it on the track).

I have a set of these bar end mirrors and they're really good. Easily comparable to OE triumph gear at 3rd of the price. I get a discount on them for being a member of a Facebook triumph page so will get them for you if you decide on them.Blade wrote:Yeah understood mate. The new fluid reservoirs are a lot easier to read than the old ones, which were a bit poor.

My bad.
Those look a LOT better. BUT.....I always put a little socky-thing around mine in case of spills, so aesthetically absolutely no bloody difference.

This is what I have on the SP. One for the clutch and one for the front brake. Looks pretty trick having matching reservoirs.Kwacky wrote:The new fluid reservoirs are a lot easier to read than the old ones, which were a bit poor.

Good stuff fellas, I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.
I appreciate the thought about the mirrors but I'm already set for those, which incidentally rule out bar ends as well.

I would spend some of the money on a decent shock and or revalve of the front forks rear shock

Re: Shopping list advice
Have to agree with Perks and personally would always spend money on form over function. But as you say your happy with the bike already then I guess you have the luxury of looking at your project from purely a styling point of view getting the bike to look exactly how you want it to look and personalise it.Perkles wrote:I would spend some of the money on a decent shock and or revalve of the front forks rear shock
