Very well. I think she wanted to sign me up there and then. She said she was worried she would offer me something and my current employer would better it to keep me.

Re: What are you doing today ??
I dunno yet. I'm pretty comfortable where I am but I'm bored. If I move it'll be a senior position and a lot will be expected of me, including longer hours, client entertainment, supervision of staff and all while hitting my targets.
But it's a big firm and they're growing. I'll get to do more of the work I want to and there's room to move upwards, which isn't available where I am.
It's a fine balance.

I presume you'll factor in the upcoming changes to your consideration. - It seems widely held that the legal sector may be one of the hardest hit.?Kwacky wrote:I dunno yet. Brexit?
Well I'm stuck in law now, regardless. It's all I know.
I hadn't heard that I was on the endangered list. How will Brexit cull our numbers? Everything is either changing or people will want things changed as we try to untangle from our long EU membership. I reckon if anything the legal community will be busier post Brexit as we're asked to deciphe or determine the changes brought about.

Re: What are you doing today ??
I'm reluctant to use the B word, but yes.
I was thinking that your current employer, whilst not the largest partnership, seems to have themselves a tidy little niche.?
The larger company that you're considering would presumably be taking you on partially because "they're growing" ?
So fwiw my thinking was that if circumstances change they're more likely to feel it ? Furthermore if the legal sector in the City does shrivel, as has been suggested, and the rest of the UK becomes awash with refugee solicitors, your more recent enlistment may put you less securely placed against being replaced.??
But hey, what would I know mate.??

Re: What are you doing today ??
From my experience, the chance to move up the ladder only really comes once, so it boils down to:
Are you career minded enough to give up some of the life you’ve got now?
Or, is your work/life/money balance satisfying as is?
Fwiw, on 360 days of the year I’m in the latter camp. Good luck with your decision.

FWIW - it's difficult to decide at these points in your career. If you earn enough and still get time with family thats a magic balance but being bored at work is dangerous too as there is more to life.
At least your popular buddy and that in itself is a boost that you know you could move job if pushed or needed.

Not going anywhere today. Massive fuel protests in France. Lots of roads blocked too.
Good on the frenchies - if they are not happy they take action rather than doing nothing.

Mourning.
The old figurehead of our household, Mrs Cookiemonster's granny and the kids Great Granny has died suddenly aged 99 3/4.
I'll miss the old bugger, she was quite a lady. A few tears and sadness today, all part of life.

Fuel prices go up and the Frenchies revolt big time as it affects their lives a fair bit for now.

Brexit happens in the UK which will effect Brits for generations to come and we let our politicians **** the whole thing up without a murmur.
Tell me who has it right?
