a slapped wrist
I've had an email from Virgin Media telling me off for downloading a copyrighted film.
I'm guessing I've downloaded a film with a tracker attached to it. It's the first time I've been caught out in 15 years.
I wouldn't mind but it's the Kingsman - my wife asked me to download it. I've not even watched it
The report says it was yesterday but I've not used uTorrent since Saturday.

Re: a slapped wrist
That's what I don't understand. I use a VPN and TOR browser.
The email suggests that I change the security on my wifi. I suspect that they've had a look at my recent history and can't find any evidence so they're just passing on the message they've had rather than giving me a warning.
I wonder if my son has used the laptop and opened up uTorrent? The film is the only thing I've got in the download list so that could explain the trace.
It was one of these "Get It Right" warning emails. There's no deadline to comply with.

As a copyright holder, you could run your own torrent server(s) hosting only your copyrighted content. That would make it easy to log offending IP addresses. (See honeypot for better description)
It would be interesting to see what information a torrent client shares with it's peers..

Re: a slapped wrist
Years ago I had virgin and I think I got some letter regarding this issue too but I ignored it and continued downloading. Fook all happened after that but we didn't used to download a lot of stuff. Ignore it and it'll be allright as long as you don't over do it.Kwacky wrote:I'm blaming the kids

Re: a slapped wrist
I rarely download anymore, generally use streaming sites and airplay to the TV from the iPad thru’ Apple TV. I’ve had to get a VPN again because the Aussie Govt I had passed laws to force ISP’s to block torrent and streaming sites.
But the majority of stuff I watch is thru’ Netflix now and I can download certain stuff legitimately from Netflix to watch offshore.
