Casualties confirmed.
There's a letter doing the rounds on twitter from a resident warning about the condition and state of the building. That letter is a couple of months old.

Kensington and Chelsea council own the building but it is managed on their behalf .duke63 wrote:Looks horrendous. Some landlord or company is going to be in deep deep shit.

Re: London's Burning.
That is a bit worrying that it had been raised as a concern just in March, thoughts with everyone involved, must be terrifying being stuck in an inferno like that
Remember: If in Doubt use Full Throttle, It may not make the situation any better, But it will end the suspense...

Thoughts go out to all affected. Those trapped would've been in a hell of a situation. I do live fire internal firefighting training every 2 years and even under training situation in full gear and with fire fighting equipment it's a scary situation.

Re: London's Burning.
I'm working in London today and could see the smoke on my way in, fortunately I'm a few miles away from there, but it's all anyone is talking about today.
I can't begin to imagine how anyone caught in that would feel. Fingers crossed the casualty list is kept to a minimum.
Someone somewhere is bricking themselves about the condition of that building- an interview I heard with a resident said the smoke alarms didn't work - that is their early warning system.

Sadly it'll be the small companies who will pay the heaviest price. The big companies will get fined, none of their directors will go to the big house.

It's the councillors who should be shitting themselves. They own the property.

Yes there will undoubtedly. I work on these refurbishments and new builds. This has been coming for a long time.duke63 wrote:There will be some people facing long prison sentences over this.

Nope, this one is still under the D&B contractors remit. The HA or LA will shaft them, rightly very probably.duke63 wrote:It's the councillors who should be shitting themselves. They own the property.

but they've passed it on a management company, who pass it on to contractors, who use sub contractors. That's the usual pattern .duke63 wrote:It's the councillors who should be shitting themselves. They own the property.

Re: London's Burning.
Yes exactly that, there will be a D&B (Design and Build) contractor that will have full responsibility for both building compliance and profit. The two things don't mix!Kwacky wrote:but they've passed it on a management company, who pass it on to contractors, who use sub contractors. Re: London's Burning.
I had a bit of a lesson on this today at a construction company. Apparently I was told there are some new rules that the owner us ultimately responsible unless he has taken all steps to ensure that he has taken on fully compliant contractors. Someone somewhere has not done their job correctly.
Rules and regs for landlords get stricter all the time to try and prevent these sort of happenings.

Re: London's Burning.
I went out for dinner a few years ago with a senior director of one of the big 4 main contractors. After a few drinks he admitted he made more money investing other people's money than he did building buildings. It's fecking broken!

Re: London's Burning.
It sounds as if they've completed the sweep of the building apart from the very top floors They are not expecting to find any more survivors.
At least 50 are at present unaccounted for. Official death toll stands at 12 for now. Fire fighters say it is too risky to try and recover the bodies.
