Nutz's Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS

So, I'd missed a naked bike and it's time for a change a pace ;) exit the XR and enter the RS. And this was an offer too good to turn down, 6 months old and less than a 1000 miles on the clock and a decent discount off the new price (plus it's run in)..

The obvious.. it's a 1200cc bike with 180bhp... Safe to say it can be a bit of a handful if you are a little over enthusiastic with the throttle, however in road mode it's as easy to ride as a bike half it's size.

This bike has been designed by bikers, not a marketing department. I'm sure I'm going to keep finding things, but there are some great touches that you'd really want from a naked bike. Thinks like bar-end mirrors as standard, pillion cowel as standard.. I know Triumph pitched this as a single model, premium range bike, and it really shows.

Riding is a dream. Rode about 4 hours back from the dealer with mixed roads from motorway to the bumpiest of back roads, the trumpet took it all in its stride (though a little firm) even with the lack of screen I wasn't in the slightest bit tired when I got home. The wind deflection from the headlights is something else.

I'm going to enjoy this bike, I can tell already.

Pending Mod List (devil)
  • Battery charger (stupid lithium battery)
  • Rear Paddock Stand (SSSA and this idiot sold his abba stand (facepalm) )
  • Tail Tidy + Smaller Plate
  • Rad guard
  • Can hanger (- pillion pegs)
  • Zorst (not in a rush for this)

I love that dash layout.

Triumph seem to go from the sublime to the ridiculous with their dash designs.

Enjoy the bike, they are brilliant.

It really works when your riding, all the information you need and nothing more. It's trick as well, when you bring it the menu or use the navigation feature the main dash slides to the side.. the antiglare also means it's easy to read in bright sunlight.

Great choice.

You're not likely to need a battery charger with a lithium battery. If it is cold, turn the bike on and leave it for a couple of minutes before starting the bike. Lithium batteries warm up this way and start easier

I should have a lithium battery charger if you need one.

Apparently the bike is never actually "off". I guess the immobiliser and keyless system must use power all the time. Apparently it can last about 2 weeks before going flat. I'll do some research online.

Happy new bike day D6Nutz.

Hope she continues to impress you.

Could that be as simple as getting the suspension set up for your (marathon running) build.?

Also, I have to point out.: Exceptional taste you've displayed, choosing a graphite Trumpet. ;)

Ok, so farcebook market place is as bad as eBay !!!

On the pending delivery over the next week are tail tidy, rad guard, exhaust hanger, and frame sliders.

Today we went out for a "lets get to know each other ride". Left home about 10 and got back at 4, and somehow I'm not knackered. I won't bother buying a screen then as the aero setup just doesn't need it... It's voodoo magic i tells ya.

I've backed the suspension off to the "comfort" settings, bit too soft so I'm steadily going to stiffen it up until I find the sweet spot. I will book in for a full suspension setup at some point.

Safe to say I'm enjoying the new bike.

Fitted the rad guard and crash bars, and removed the ghay euro reflectors.

Impressed with both, the crash bars really fit with the bike and almost disappear.ImageImage

Touring mode, approx 30L trail pack with quick removable base. It's not a quick task taking the pillion seat off as it needs an allen key.

Also arrived and will hopefully fit over the weekend, tail tidy and smaller number plate.ImageImage

Last mod for a while, was a bugger to fit and took way longer than I expected it to. Might add some smaller indicators to the shopping list.

On the plus side, very impressed with the wiring under the seat. Image

That looks so much better than that arrestor-hook assembly that was on there before.
