Crossgates and Newtown

I live in a little village just off the A44 between Worcester and Leominster. I'm thinking of going over to Wales this bank holiday weekend. Once I hit Crossgates would you turn off the A44 in Rayhader and go up the A470 to Newtown and hit the twisty A483 road coming down to Crossgates or would you go up the A483 to Newtown and then back down to Crossgates and then head home from there? I've never been on the A470 so I don't know if it will be worth it, plus it's a few miles back round to Newtown via that road.

I tend to head up to Newtown then down the A483. There's some amazing roads around Knighton, Craven Arms and that way.

I used to go up to Newtown then turn round and head back to Crossgates on the same main road. I would always go back through Builth Wells to Abergavenney

I don't but that's my most local spot in Wales after Monmouth. Nowhere good in Monmouth though.

I live in England so I'd either head to Newent or Ledbury,
then onto Hereford, Leominster, Crossgates. I never ventured West sadly. I'm keen to do it with the Wife and Baby though!

The Newtown coppers will be waiting for you on a bank holiday. Give this a try, you won't see any Police once you get past Rhayader and if you've got time at the end you could add the Elan Valley in.
