What do it get or do

So regular readers will know I recently bought a Thruxton R and love it, but unfortunately so did the police.

The GB is sold awaiting me to deliver it next weekend but cash is in my bank account already.

The multi is the couples touring SUV so is not going anywhere.

But chatting to Jess tonight and she says “you need the opportunity to go flat out. You can’t take that risk on the road anymore, so why don’t you get another track bike. You can get there now I’m living here too and can cover the kids for you”

One, don’t I just have the best f**king chick in the world,

Two, do I get a track bike or just take the Thruxton and go a group slower than I normally do and not go super hard.

I don’t know how I’d go on a hunched over sport bike these days post surgery and I’m concerned about the damage I’ll do to myself if I spill... because if I have a track only bike... I will again at some stage.

What’s the thoughts wise ones.

I'd at least try the Thruxton first.... once, maybe twice - or whatever it takes for that matter....see how it feels & go from there.

What D41 said. See if you still enjoy trackdays. Work our how many you're likely to do.

Thruxton - Wring it's neck. See how you feel.

Another option would be to look for a track bike hire company if there is such a thing down there.

Do a day on the thruxton and one on a hike bike, make a decision.

All the responses have been totally on point, but this is a good idea. They were (not sure if still are) but hiring BMW 1000RR.

I think the best move would be a day in a group slower than I used to go in and enjoy the Thruxton but not wring it’s neck or push it too hard.

Fwiw I'll give another vote for trying your Thruxton first, and if the trackday event works for you but you don't feel "right" on the Thruxton then look at your options again.

I would give the Thruxton a go too, they are faster than my old Street Triple R 675 and I had a great time around Cadwell Park with that, Cadwell is like a country lane though and not a top speed track. Your local track may be different.

Thruxton for one time is a good plan but don't make that your track weapon.

IMO, a Street Triple will be the ideal track tool for you (or something like that). Very capable machine, lightweight, ample power, half decent brakes (definitely upgrade them!) And a more upright position to cater for your post surgery situation.

My main concern on that is how my numb my arms will go in the sporty riding position. And post fusion I can’t get my head back enough to finish a can of drink so would be quite limited on a 1000RR

I’ve worked out methods (lol) I get the last few degrees of tilt by opening up in my chest and bending in the torso. Just not a sustainable option on a bike
