When I saw this I thought it was going to be an Eric Clapton dies thread, so was quite relieved when it wasn't until I read it. Very disappointed.

I'm not going to defend or excuse, however "older & wiser" now perhaps.? He claims elsewhere to be ashamed of himself in that period.
