Went and test rode the Thruxton 1200R at the bike shop (one I posted about in the Thruxton thread)

Bike looks and sounds amazing, those Vance and Hines have a great note and nice little pop on deceleration. Plenty of upgraded Triumph bits and bobs and only 12K (km) on the dial.

Doesn’t feel like a 1200 to ride, really nimble and light. Feels like a 600 when you hop on it. But once your under way it pulls hard, plenty of torque and rev’s freely. Totally love it.

Pick it up on Wednesday. It’s registered out of state, so have to wait for them to do a registration change over and service.

Yup, I can see me making excuses to get out on this much more than the GB more than one person told me the GB wouldn’t last, and although I enjoyed a good bunch of rides on it, it doesn’t have a patch on this bike, but the Thruxton doesn’t lose any of the things I liked about the GB. So to you all, you were right

The Multistrada has always been my No. 1 bike, but I can see that getting relegated down the order to SUV duties (long comfy trips with Jess)

With Jess living with me full time now, means I’m not the only adult supervision in the house, so stealing some bike time should be a lot easier.

I was trying to be responsible and not spend too much, hence I was focused on the older 900 versions initially. But once you’ve had a good look at the 1200R there is no going back

Started raining last night and forecast for rain for the full 10 day look ahead.

Seems like your gorgeous looking new steed has a name in mind Kk.? - I think she's Thruxton Storm.

Like a thunder storm, thunder grey livery, that howling wind, & I'll bet those LV pipes are going to sound right too.
Also, as with Alexandra Shipp, you wouldn't take a lot of persuading to give her a ride.

I’ve never really named my bikes or cars, just get called by there model designation. Might become something as exotic as ‘The Trumpet’

The Ducati is just referred to as the Multi

The only vehicle I've ever kinda-sorta named was my old Mercedes, 'cos the license plate letters spelt out my mother's name. A happy coincidence, I suppose.

New Bike Day!!

Pissing down at home but 10 km down the road all the way to the bike shop is dry, joys of living above the low cloud line.

New bike day

So the bike goods smiled on me today, then had the last laugh.....

We have had heavy rain for the last 5 days and forecast for another 10 but the weather had a break for the morning and had even warmed up enough to dry all the roads out with a nice sunny 30 deg morning. It was raining when I left home so packed the waterproof textiles, but 10 mins down the road and it was dry. This resulted in me sweating my ar$e off in the textiles coming home and was soaked anyway Then the skies let loose 10 mins after I put the bike away.

The only down side to the bike i can see so far is it throws heaps of heat off from the engine at a standstill. Obviously wasn’t helped by the wet weather gear on a warm day.

Other than that, the hour ride home was brilliant, spent far to much time purposely making music with the exhausts the thing turns so easy and seriously feels smaller than a 1200 should, while pulling like a tractor all through the rev range.

With a big smile on my dial I roll it into the garage with the other two.... wait what’s that on the back tyre?
Oh bugger, well they are tubed tyres so hopefully it’s only a short one...
Oh well, wheel off time... hmmm my single side arm stand won’t work, where is the old Daytona one? Oh.. that’s right I lent the arms to a mate and never got them back. Guess a Herc pallet strap will have to do!!
Wheel is down at the local shop now for pick up tomorrow.

Now just wait for the wheel to fit again and another break in the weather!!

Good choice on the bike, it looks really good. Shame about the puncture though.

Looks lovely. At least the puncture was seen whilst at home rather than when out on the road.

The heat thing is common to pretty much all bike engines now. They run so lean to get through emissions and get hot as a result.

Might be worth doing a bit of digging to see if a different fuelling set up will make it better.

At least you saw the puncture.

When you see a nail that length & shape, it almost defies belief that it could have punctured the tyre so precisely & cleanly. Very annoying for you, but (as pointed out above) at least it was at home that you spotted it & no real harm was done.

Glad you saw that too St Marks, I did have it parked up for 1/2 hr on way back when I stopped with Jess for lunch. The nail was very clean and undamaged for a road pick up. I thought I was just being paranoid.

Old mate is in WA now, so a bit far but I am going to buy swing arm spools and a new stand tomorrow.
