Car ownership and car use are two arguments. No one is saying people can't own a car, but if people started using alternative methods of transport, the roads would flow better, public transport would be more effective and the air a bit cleaner

I went past a primary school last week and there must have been close to 100 cars parked along the round as parents turned up to collect their kids.

That school has a strict 2 mile radius induction.

People are lazy. Road charging will soon be the only way to stop short journeys imo.

Choppers are spendy, and heliports hard to come by.

For local journeys, we have become lazy and self centered. I don't see any way back from where we are, even pricing per journey will still be justified.. lift sharing just won't work because you won't be home the nanosecond you think you need to be. There will need to be something more than a minor addition to the cost before habits will change

For longer distance stuff the cost of shared transport has to stack up before it becomes viable.

For example, I'm going to Sheffield more regularly now. Even taking a branch line to reading, then to Paddington, into Euston, before finally Sheffield is actually quicker than driving (just if everything is on time).

To drive there and back, about £40... The train at the same time £170ish.

Because we don't subside rail travel like every other sensible country. Have road charging and use it to subsidise rail travel.

Once cars are self driving and thus speed limited, why would most people want to own one?

I'm willing to bet we have ridden pricing in urban areas within 10 years, if not sooner.

Have a read up about future planning for Birmingham City Centre. They are exploring the idea of closing the Aston Expressway and the city centre tunnels and also splitting Birmingham into zones and charging for driving from one zone to another. They reckon 900 people per year from respiratory diseases caused by road pollution. Every city is thinking the same way.

Because they can, because it goes where they want when they want, and because it shows they are "considerably richer than youw"

Take Switzerland for example, and in particular Zurich. When I went there many years ago there was no on-street parking and off-road was insanely expensive, the tram network was perfect in both cost and punctuality.. so why where people still driving into Zurich?

Climate change is not the issue, it's simply one of the symptoms of the actual problem.

so much more can be done by our leaders especially banning single use plastics etc, the waste i see every day in the packaging industry is appalling

I dont believe in the battery car hype its just shifting a problem from one place to another and people making money from it

Electric/hybrids are a drop in the proverbial bucket when it comes to global vehicle manufacturing figures. Also, the extra labour + energy spent during the build process takes a long time to recoup, if ever. They pay nothing more than lip service to the issues at hand, but at least they're a step in the right direction - even if it's only to raise public awareness.
End of the day, they're not going to make much of a difference in the long run.

They are already struggling to dump the defunct batteries ,the plan is they are going to landfill
rather stick with diesel myself

The issue is we travel around to much. And rarely use the legs we are born with to facilitate that.

For the moment I am okay with my old diesel but not surprisingly Tesla are working the battery recycling problem.

If we are using hydrogen to power vehicles I think they will be fuel cell based.

So rather than us all having a petrol bomb as a fuel tank, we'll have a hydrogen bomb instead. Great.

If I can't have liquid Hydrogen to fuel my D675's conversion kit, perhaps better still would be a "Mr Fusion home energy generator " ?
