Johnson has banned all foreign journalists from his G7 closing speech.

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
The Speaker has just kicked off about Johnson misleading the House. He's demanded a statement as to why the Speaker was told there was nothing concrete agreed then he found out there's a sealed document doing the rounds which sets out what Johnson is going to say at the press conference.
Under normal circumstances misleading the house is serious enough for a minister to resign. Sadly we're not dealing with decent people.

This government is behaving dangerously close to a communist government.
Controlling people's movements, monitoring communications, controlling the press, and positioning themselves above the law.

It's missing a few key elements though....state ownership of businesses, agricultural collectives, a ban on private property, Monty, etc...... to name but a few.

Actually the Government is having to buy up rail and bus services to ensure they survive the pandemic and the facility still exists.

Oh for sure..... and they did the same thing - especially with the railways, but not limited to them alone - in the post-war years that followed both world wars....so the practice itself has been around for at least a century. And still, miraculously the Communist hordes have somehow been held at bay.

The next nail in the coffin for any privacy rights in the UK.
Say goodbye to the digital protection that is GDPR and welcome in the UK'S proposition for a replacement framework. Let's just say it wasn't received favourably by the ORG.

I am sure there must be a myriad of reason why but Johnson's Government has taken a hammering in the Amersham by election.

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
That's a good result. It looks like a few labour voters decided to switch votes as well. I would like to see more tactical voting happen for the next election.

Cummins nose really has been put out hasn't it. He, I think though, could have the influence to cause some real problems for no 10

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
I see Labour just managed to hold on to Batley yesterday.
The interesting result was in Cobham and Downside - Dominic Raab's constituency. It was only a councillor seat but the Lib Dems got their first councillor there since the boundaries were drawn up 40 years ago. Liberals got 49.8% of the votes compared to the Tories 43.5%. It was an 18.5% swing.
It looks like longstanding Tory voters aren't happy with the state of the Conservative party.

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
Don't get your hopes up, I used to live down there and tactical voting is the norm.
As for Labour in Batley, they've gone from a 9000 majority, to 3500, to 329 in the last 3 elections

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
George Galloway did a good job of splitting the votes.
I'm not expecting a massive surge of people voting Liberal and I accept that it's nothing more than a protest vote over a council seat, but what I've said stands. I do believe that a lot of Tory voters have had enough with the way that the Tory party presents itself and the way it acts. The Tories can only carry the Brexit bounce for so long.

Re: The Daily Post Election Politics Thread
You've got to hope that's the case, worst government in many generations.
Labour had lost the Muslim vote in Batley even before Galloway got involved, they've been on a downward trajectory in the North since 2001
