Great to see that you UK dwellers are now enjoying the freedoms that you have from Brexit.
Here in France, the French have not noticed that the UK has left. A few ex-pats are moaning that they cannot get their residency cards as they have lived here "under the radar" and not paid any taxes nor registered their cars here, but that is only a few. The rest of us have full shelves in the shops and here in the rural areas no sign of covid nor any restrictions.
The girlfriend and I got the BMWs out and went for a short trip down the road to the Pyrenees staying in hotels for the night we were away, but that is because we have residency cards and the freedom to travel.

Bob, this really isn't the place to gloat about BREXIT, pretty much all of us left on here (except Jack ) voted to remain in the EU. Have you tried the Daily Mail forums, they love it up em.

So RNLI men are being abused by some people for saving migrants in the Channel?

WTF is going on in this Country?

The "Law Of The Sea" says that you pretty much have to drop everything to rescue someone in trouble at sea.... even in times of war. There's a few treaties that cover that, The Geneva Convention, etc.

You won't see it on your news, but we've currently got a Home Secretary that's trying to change the law to make it illegal to save them.

That would solve nothing, merely cause unwarranted suffering.
Imo the problem does not lay with those desperate souls who choose to invest & gamble everything to reach our shores.
It is a problem entirely of our own making, and the blame for every life lost (and every family's "life's savings" handed to the OC groups) lays with us.!

I don't think many of us on here would dispute that France is a wonderful place to live. In the unlikely event that you dispute that fact, you could ask Cookiemonster or BobT.

There was a couple on TV the other night at a vets with their much loved cat. Their vet told them that it was going to die, basically because they had been overfeeding it (much more specific explanation, but that was the overview).
They were distraught & devastated. Apparently a neighbour was suffering from dementia, and had taken to constantly feeding their cat with ( eg: tinned salmon, cream etc..). They had tried asking her to stop, but that wasn't going anywhere. They had tried the authorities & social services, also a non starter. They had tried keeping the cat locked in the house, but that was cruel to an animal that had been used to it's freedom and had proved difficult to implement.
So, end of the day, it appeared that they were going to loose the beloved family pet to a (costly &) agonising death because of ignorant generosity that they was beyond any viable control.

That pissed me off somewhat too..

Point of origin.... and as I said, I know there's a much broader issue where many countries are simply going to pass the buck.... I don't necessarily blame them for that either - it's nothing but a temporary solution at best.

What if the US government decided they would send you back?

There's no realistic manner,, or set of circumstances in which that would ever happen.
Or at least, none that springs to mind.

France is different, not any better than the UK to live overall.

Bob doesn't mention the terrible levels of anti vaxxers in France, the bureaucracy, the rampant racism, expensive cost of living now or social discontent in the country.

I see a lot of UK bashers over here who live in an expat bubble with their expat mates. It makes them feel better about moving from the UK and helps them boost their own self esteem while being smug at people who at least half of them didn't vote for brexit. It's quite sad and unnecessary.

I for one live over here for now because it suits and I've been achieving what I want to, however it's no paradise, just different values and cheaper wine.

I for one avoid a lot of expats like the plague as they generally do the same old thing week in week out, which is sad.

The UK has its issues for sure, but so does France and any other country, it's just what suits different people.

What about if they didn’t like you as you were not American by birth?

That's close to 15% of the population, around half of whom are green-card holders (non-citizens).
Anyway.... once you pass all the tests, interviews, etc. they grant you your citizenship....I'd have to REALLY fcuk-up badly to warrant deportation. And by that I mean long-prison-term badly, at the end of which the UK would just say "No thanks!"
Or something like that.
Either way, citizenship of anywhere would be the least of my worries at that point.
