We are at a export rate that we can't maintain enough feed to onshore, so they shut down to us for good at 9pm last night. next time they start up again will be from feed form a different field that is getting developed, approx. 2 yrs from happening.

Unfortunately the company secured a domestic gas contract so we ares till trickling gas to that and running for the meantime. If we have a plant upset and trip, it's highly unlikely we could start the place again at these rates. I have everything crossed

So in a case of be very careful of what you wish for…. I’ve had the worst 4 days of my time out here.

Not only did we trip, we had a total black out. A FSC system fried (Fire Safety Control) and defaulted to fire indication on EVERYTHING! So in particular the 5 turbine power generators I look after all emergency shut down. 3 days of running on the emergency generator, both fire pumps running 24 hours a day because we couldn't reset the FSC, and we were living in a cloud of diesel exhaust as there is literally not wind out here atm. Also existing on emergency HVAC, and accommodation temps were 30+ deg for 3 days. I tell you that’s a hard way to sleep.
Not that I got much sleep. Day we tripped I worked till midnight (18hrs) and 3 hours later we had an emergency platform alarm. A UPS had run down and we went to a deeper level shutdown and had more false fire indications. So as Fire Team Leader I was out after 2 hrs sleep managing my team as we physically checked every inch of the platform for concerns.
We are finally back to normal power and HVAC but the plant is a long way off. Still touch and go if it will come back. Plus we might get the DomGas contract cancelled on us for non-supply.

The diesel exhaust cloud has disappeared too thankfully

no, it wasn't at all Though it was satisfying getting through some technical issues and re-establishing normal power, and then also being the person that brought on the main HVAC again (Utilities Tech was busy bunkering diesel to keep the place running)

Ha ha it felt like a horror movie tbh!!!

Had some more dramas today, didn’t escalate but lots of potential… all I can say at this point.

Really seriously done with this place

Yes mate.. I haven't updated because I was very frustrated.

The posting was for 'Senior Process Engineer - Automation'. When I spoke to my friend who sits 3 desks from the manager interviewing for the role he thought I was a perfect match. Halfway through the interview I saw it dawn on the guys face that he's asked for the wrong thing. He wants a 'Senior Automation Engineer' - someone solely looking into automating manual processes.

That's not me.

I'm worthy of a senior level production/process engineer position, but an automation engineer I am not.

That's a bit disappointing Cav, and a little poor on the managers side. Did he not review your resume prior to the interview??

Apparently he did, although he then asked me to talk me through my CV without it infront of me.. so I'm not sure.

Shame really, such a big company like Dyson and poor happenings like that.

That's the end of that then..

Tomorrow I start a new job (again I know) but this is take two of getting back into permanent and saying goodbye to contracting.

I'm getting ¾ of job interest coming from contract at the minute with most of those being inside IR35. I'm swaying away from them currently but they are appealing for sure given the increase salary.

Just remember with the contract setup there is no holiday or sick pay, so you will need to subject that from the overall pay. Inside IR35 isn't too bad, I've been inside for 4 years. Benefit is you dont need a ltd company, but the downside is you get taxed at source as PAYE so your effectively an employee with no benefits.

Try playing with the calculators on this site as they give a really good idea of what you could take home.
