Re: Work
Just had a call from the Partner I'm working for now.
I did a review of a file. He said there was nothing he could add, change or disagree with rather than do a full report to the client he just did a brief email and attached my note.
And he thanked me.
Nice to know I'm not worthless

Showing appreciation costs nothing, but is worth a huge amount.Kwacky wrote:Just had a call from the Partner I'm working for now.

Let's hope this continues, and that you can get some enthusiasm back.

Re: Work
Am I right in thinking this is more than you ever got with your previous partner? Feeling appreciated is the best thing you can get.. bonuses from a sh!tty manager are hollow victories.

Re: Work
Yep. Every single thing I did for the last partner had to be corrected, amended or rewritten. It didn't matter what it was, she never let anything go out without having done something to it.
In my last appraisal I spelt it out that in all the time I had worked for her she never once said "thank you". It just becomes disheartening, you end up wondering why you bother. It got to the point where I couldn't see any reason to bother doing any work.
I spoke to another partner last week about some work I've been doing for a mutual client. She's my bosses best friend so I was a bit shocked when she wished me good luck with the move. Even she said I need to get my mojo back.

Re: Work
Thanks for asking.
The new job is going well. It's the type of work I've spent most of my time dealing with in the past so it's almost second nature to me.
I did a report on a new file last week. My boss liked the report but didn't agree with my conclusions, so he called me. We had a 20 minute chat, putting each others' view of the case and came up with a compromise. It just felt good to be spoken to like an adult with a brain and not be talked down to like a bad parent to a small child.
I'm not anxious at the weekend and the stress levels are dropping.

Re: Work
Of course, for some reason I thought it was a 1 month trial. I presume you hope something comes of it currently.
Any news on how the other person is doing?

Re: Work
I've not asked how she's getting on. I spoke to her a couple of times at the start just to point her in the right direction but I've left it since then.

I realise that often "no news is good news", but your lack of feedback since the change did leave me wondering how it had gone for all involved.Kwacky wrote:I've had confirmation that my move is permanent.

Re: Work
We've been told that from next month we will be expected to do at least one day a week in the office.
I don't have a problem with that to be honest. I will probably do two. I'm easily distracted at home and end up having to be at my desk for longer as I try to catch up with the work I should have done earlier in the day.

Re: Work
I have been back in the central Birmingham office of one client two says a week for three weeks now.
I must confess I prefer the separation of work and home for mist of the time.
Central Birmingham is still quiet though. If more office don't return, many of the bars, shops and restaurants will not survive the year, in my opinion.
One of my hairdressing clients has put two staff back on furlough today, as after the rush for haircuts back in April they are now really quiet.

Re: Work
Despite notifying most recruitment companies I'm no longer looking for work they're still sending me stuff.... one of them was extremely temptational! It's a job role I was looking at when I was looking for my current job and it comes with double the pay. Downside with my upcoming situation is some working away.
I said no thanks.
