I see Russia has been buzzing a US Warship which was not too far from Russia. The Donald Cook is packed with Radars and it's got the means to protect itself. If you look at the BBC link the video seems to suggest that the crew weren't overly concerned.

What I find alarming are the online comments I've seen from Americans (with Brits joining in) , who reckon that the Russian planes should have been knocked out of the sky and that it's Obama's fault because he's a weak president. Are people really that stupid?

Ah the joy of the keyboard warrior! I doubt there's a serving man or woman in either Britain or America that would want to rise to that provocation. They understand the consequences and sacrifices involved.

I hope it's just a case of stupid people tending to air there views more readily, either way it's killing social media politics.

This is bullsh*t!! I say we bomb those pesky Russkies right the feck NOW!!!!!!!!

Oh wait....no I don't! I think it's great....no better way for us to see their capabilities than under conditions such as this.
And furthermore...I wouldn't be surprised in the least to find out that this was all part of an exercise, and Obama's remarks are simple subterfuge.
I think if the US Navy was at any kind of serious Def-Con level.....3 or more and they just fire and ask questions later.

Yee-Haa!!

That ship can protect itself so I presume if the Ruskies are doing practice attacks the USS Donald Cook will be doing practice defence.

Yes, but that basically just means they end up doing everything but firing...tracking, target acquisition, etc.

You forget that I served in HM Navy.

Well....two months in the Sea Cadets (Special Ops Branch) when I was 16.

You could argue that this story, which was broken by the Pro-Republican sections of the US Media, might be a piece of propaganda

Ooooooh!! That's an interesting one.....but that could also just be endemic of the press in general....they usually lean a bit to the right in Left-Wing terms.

IMHO we really don't need to be jumping at opportunities to make Russia "the enemy" again.
Quite apart from the fact that I'll never start a fight unless I'm certain I'm going to win... (punch)
We have plenty of other "enemies" right now, who present a far more clear & present danger to our welfare & future..

Hey Montgomery!! Who's the feckin' politician here, you or me??

Young bairns like you will be first against the wall when I assume my mantle of power.

Actually you won't....I'll be implementing my scourge elsewhere first, just to get a few practice rounds in.

Good luck with that Dazzle.: Aside from the fact that I'm a good bit older than you, the only "skills" that our society ever chose train me in may actually make me "rather evasive". ;)

"Evasive"....That's what I figured.

'Prolly shouldn't have marked that muddy lane in the countryside down as your location....you know, the one with the single story rambling cottage and the tractor in the yard??
