Saw this on another forum. It's worth a try.

There's no such thing as road tax.

That said, I don't mind paying VED for my bike. It's a tiny cost of running a bike.

Does that petition take into account the 2017 rules on vehicle excise duty?

Those government petitions are a waste of time. Have any of them ever changed government policy?

I pay more for my bike than my car, the car has to be causing more damage on the road in all ways, the whole thing is a bloody con, just like the bill for my tv licence.... Bloody rip off.

why do you get a TV licence ? There is no way of detecting if you have a TV or what you use it for , I have not had a TV licence - ever .

Surely the can simply see which addresses have not paid, and then visit them?

They do, but they don't have the right of entry from what I know.

In France it's part of the council tax equivalent so you can't dodge it.

As far as I'm aware not paying for a TV lience is a criminal offence and therefore would land you a criminal record and if fines are not paid could ultimately see you in prison.

If they can prove your watching broadcast television. A television on its own does not need a license.

I know a few people who don't pay for a licence frankly.

Stupid question but what is defined as broadcast television ?

Is it all TV or specifically content by the BBC ?

I'm not going to do it as don't mind paying for a TV lience and think the BBC produce some great content but sounds like if you don't want to pay it's difficult and unlikely you would be prosecuted.

It's any TV from memory. The "I don't watch BBC" argument has been tried and it failed.

You need to be covered by a TV Licence if you watch or record programmes as they're being shown on TV or live on an online TV service. This is the case whether you use a TV, computer, tablet, mobile phone, games console, digital box, DVD/VHS recorder or any other device.

I read that as broadcast be it catchup tv, online streaming or satellite/cable etc. If you don't use any of the above but only watch DVDs etc I can't see it being necessary.

Don't get me wrong, I agree you should get one and have always had one.

My issue with the to license is it should be bundled with something else so it doesn't get dodged.

The same should be true of the road fund license. Add it to fuel. Pay as you go / use. Gas guzzlers still pay more, efficient cars don't. Ideal time to do it at the moment with prices low. Can't be dodged then either, one less set of admin for the government.

But we all ready pay duty on fuel.

Its just another way of relieving hard working people of more of their own money.

True. But it still has to be paid at the moment so at least it's fairer and proportional to road and car use.
