Continuing to read " The Gulag Archipelago" by Alexander Solzenitzyn , it's brutal .

Trying to work out if the head gasket has gone on our trusty van. I went to check it this morning as we were going away for a couple of days and no coolant in it. It's taken 8 litres so far and after a test drive for 25 mins it needed another 2.5 litres. No leaks as far as i can see.

I think we are in trouble.

No. Which gives me hope we have caught it early or it's something else in the cooling system.

I'm going to have to book it into my local garage to see what he thinks I suspect.

So it's got approximately 100cc/min of water escaping but no obvious leak or oil mixing... Is it steaming out of the exhaust?

Best case I can think of is a water cooled turbocharger with a blown seal dumping into the exhaust housing.

Wouldn't there be a lot of steam/smoke if that was the case?

The turbo is new. After a bit of research my next best bet is the egr cooler. I'm going to bypass it tomorrow to test.

Had my licence suspension appeal application approved and a court date issued. Middle of next month.

Found the problem. Corroded metal coolant pipes at back of engine. Nightmare access.

Parts ordered. £32.

Whether I can get at the pipes to change them is another matter.

It’s not congrats yet, that’s just approved to be heard in court. Apparent you have a shite driving record you don’t even get that far.

It seems "Congrats" is for getting that far, and so quickly.? In which case, I'll second Cav's salutation.

Have you considered what tactic you are going to present to the court.?

Just followed a drunk/drug driver and had her arrested. Her antics were quite something.

The suspension is a bit of a weird thing. 30-45 km over is a suspension issued by Roads and Maritime Services, the body that issues licences, registrations etc, but it’s not mandatory. But because of the hours it would take to review each case on its merits and make a decision, they now just issue a suspension automatically for every such offence. Then it is up to the naughty person to decide if they want to appeal it.

My suspension was effective from 25 May but is now delayed till after my court appearance.
