Reporting myself at work for a mistake. I used the wrong formula for an equation and it cost the client just over £500. Silly mistake on my part.

No I won't.
It's classed as a small amount so it comes out of a fund. There's indemnity insurance for the larger amounts.

Finally sitting down with my Grandparents in their garden later today! I fully anticipate being freezing cold after 3 hours of talking and still sitting there

A guy in working with has lent me a raspberry pi and a pair of 1TB disks. I'm going to be playing about building a NAS box for my photos, turns out even at a hobby level you acquire quite a lot of images very quickly.

Openmediavault is good for Pi.
I've done a lot with Pi's so let me know if I can help

I need to find out if I can make openmediavault support zfs, apparently that's best for consistency for when the PI crashes.
The guy who lent it to me it's a storage specialist and used it as a NAS before he upgraded.

I think you need a plugin, but it does.D6Nutz wrote:C00kiemonster wrote:D6Nutz wrote:A guy in working with has lent me a raspberry pi and a pair of 1TB disks. I just use rsync to another pi so dont need raid as such.
Pi's are pretty stable.

The OMV install wiped out the wi-fi dongle somehow and it's complaining about low voltage.
Attempt 2 tomorrow without OMV and installing zfs manually.

Wifi dongle? That's an old Pi then.
If it's moaning on the initial screen about power then the power supply might not be up to much. The older pi's need better power supply if your using USB. If it's a USB hdd it will need a separate power supply normally. Or a powered USB hub.

I actually don’t think about getting home till about a week before I’m due home, otherwise it just does you in. I try to be mindful and enjoy my time as much as I can rather than wishing my life away, but it’s not always easy.

So at least 3 reformats later and the conclusion is OMV sucks goats. Only supports Debian and Debian won't support out build zfs in 32bit. Plus they refuse to support USB drives.
Final reformat into Ubuntu 20 server, zfs direct from the repo. Bit if fiddling configuring servers and bang, one NAS. 2x1TB striped with 2 copies, decent redundancy but a little slow. May upgrade to a pi4.
