Poor Starting Issues

Post by Blade »

When I got back from the Italy trip I thought the poor cold starting was due to low quality euro fuel which has up to 10% ethanol in it.

With hindsight it probably wasn't fuel quality but flies, in particular lots of dead flies as the below photos show.

I have never seen an air filter on any car or bike of mine even 10% as bad as this. Seems Europe has a lot fly's and there big buggers.

Duke or Bratty if I was you I might spend 10 minutes whipping the air filter out just to check your bikes. If it happened to me likely it could have happened to you. For info I cleaned the k&n before the trip so this soiling is purely from 2800 miles in Europe.

David Attenborough could do a whole programme about the wildlife in that filter.

Remember that night you had manflu in Germany, Blade?

Well myself and Bratty went outside and picked all the flies out of our air filters and put them in yours. (giggle)

Being serious though, that looks like you rode straight through a swarm of them at some point. My leathers were remarkably free of interesting insects and wildlife considering how many miles we did, but i will have a check.

No I hadn't either and was shocked when I took it out. As I said was cleaned as part of service before the trip so that's purely from the Italian trip. Mind blowing.
