Winter plans for your bike

Post by duke63 »

I've got the 748 on the Abba stand in the garage at the moment attempting to play with the rear ride height. Unfortunately the ride height adjuster has seized with 15 years of no adjustment so it looks like i will need to replace it.

I also want to replace the clip ons with some with adjustable angle so I can try and make it less of a stretch to the bars. these are what i would like to fit.
They also have a different offset of the bar to the fork than standard so will be a different feel too.

Other than that I have an Oberon clutch slave which i need to fit but then its just the usual cleaning behind fairings and stuff to do ready for next season.

I'll be riding mine as much as I can. I do plan to get a second bike but that won't be until spring so I can't take the kwak off the road until then.

I plan on riding the RSV whenever I can. The only maintenance I have planned is to take it up to Griff's to get the rear suspension checked out, it has a little too much movement in the dog bone. While it's there I'm going to get them to put the new collector on as I don't fancy trying to undo the nuts on the headers (sweat)

The track bike has some new tyres to get fitted at some point, I'll probably pop down to GS tyres and have a chin wag with gary while I'm there about Jerez. I feel that I should probably do some maintenance on it over the winter but need to make a plan as to what.

For where you are I would replace it. Something a bit more upright and practical. You've still got the CBR if you want to hit the track or go out on a sportsbike.

A lightweight naked of some sort. I love my bike but it's too quick for the roads I live round. I may well keep it, but it's certainly up for debate.

A lightweight naked and an off-roader only bike as a second may be ideal.

I like the Yamaha mt07 tbh. Cheap as chips really.

The MT-07 has had some cracking write ups over here. Only the suspension seems to be a weak point.

Good point, I did see that. For what it costs I'd consider certainly replacing the rear shock with a decent one fairly early.

I'll have a trip to a Yamaha dealer in the new year, might try both and see....

My basis for comparison starts with the 690 duke which was brilliant but it's over 2k more than the mt07.

I do want a bike that feels light and is very flickable, but also light enough to ride the changing surfaces well. Bigger triple may be better for touring with as well, but as that's not many weeks of the year it maybe more sensible if the smaller one is 'almost' as good.

Dunno yet....

I'll be leaving mine in my mate's garage for as long as possible until he makes me take it out and put it back in the tent outside my house.
Normally I'd say I'll be riding it into work and back, but I don't plan on being at work very much in Jan/Feb.
