He's got a good eye.
That photo of the dusty soldiers tells a story. The look in their eyes and etched on their faces. Haunting.

Re: A Different View.
I wonder why some of the bullet tips are painted red that the soldier has over his shoulder ?

Tracers? Normally every 5th or 10th is a tracer for night fighting.
I know we red tip our tracer bullets.

Re: A Different View.
Yep.
The usual is known as 4-bit, which is 4 regular rounds and then 1 tracer round.
Also comes as 1-bit.
And then you get bored squaddies making full belts of tracer, just for fun! Awesome to look at when fired, but the incendiary effect has a negative effect on legality!

I found myself scrolling back to that photo. It's an amazing photo that really shows the effect the conflict is having on some really strong men and women.. I'm fairly certain I couldn't do the job they do.

Haha!! 1 in 5 is the norm right....cos I've read that the firing rate of the weapon can change it to as much as 1 in 20??Itchy wrote:Yep.

Re: A Different View.
It would make sense as they have a much higher rate of fire than the machine gun that fires the .50 cal that the soldier has sling over his shoulder.

A multi-barrelled machine gun, capable of a ridiculously high rate of fire. Development of the Gatling gun.Perkles wrote:What's a mini Gun?

Re: A Different View.
Gatling....yep, you beat me to it....they make the old MG-42 look like a water pistol......they're bloody insane!!
The difference with a lot of weapons like this is that they always quote discharge rates of 900 rounds per minute or whatever....but the majority of these firearms only have a 30 round(ish) magazine.....it's empty in just a few seconds.....a minigun uses belts,.....it fires forever, and doesn't burn out barrels like a lot of other guns.
Fun fact! The SAS and SBS are the only units in the British Army to be allowed to choose their weaponry from any manufacturer in the world......the HK is the most popular. They also figured out a neat quick-release mechanism that allows them to strap the weapon to their chest whilst rappelling etc.....it can be unclipped in half a second.

Re: A Different View.
H+K do a wide range of weapons. The G36 is popular. The MP5 is the one most people recognise. I've fired both. The G36 is big but light with excellent balance. I can imagine it'll do a lot of damage.
The MP5 is nice and compact but I'm guessing it's only any good in close quarter.
