20 mph

I had a letter from the Council informing me that my road and a few of the other roads around mine are being reduced to 20mph

I don't mind as they're residential roads in the main, although they are reducing parts of an A road to 20mph as well.

But who the chuff is going to enforce it? Sure there will be a police campaign when they drop the limit but what then? As it is you can often see people doing over 40mph on these roads.

I do love the way councils dream up of new ways to waste cash.

Most of the roads where we lived in Brum were 20mph. No one stuck to that at all and no one enforced them either.

I've seen some crazy speeds being driven past schools in the 20mph limit.

Sadly a good idea but a waste of time and money :(

idiotic same as the 50 mph drop round here from national. If i hit a 50 zone i would always do that as it was done for a reason. Now they are just going round making most busy at rush hour roads a 50mph (why does it save lives at rush hour as most people can not do that speed anyway) i now treat them as national unless there's cameras. same with 20's if there's a reason for them like out side a school then that's a great idea but just putting 20's all over just makes people ignore them when they really matter.

most of the old single country road nationals are 50mph now. Nothing was said, they simply swapped the road signs over.

My crescent is 20mph now and the roads each end are but nobody takes any notice.

I have no issues with 20's in built up resi area's and schools, I think the stealth bull with the nationals going to 50's is a real con!!!
But what is really grinding my gears at the moment is the daft F*$%'s driving at a steady 40 everywhere - 20's 30's and nationals, bloody pain in the backside.

When I did a speed awareness course there was a 19 yr old woman there who thought that the National Speed Limit sign meant 40 mph. How the fook she got caught speeding I dont know lol.

A lot of 20 mph limits near us which o agree with and stick to as a residential area with schools and parks.

Its not enforced by police or cameras but to be honest not really needed as lots of speed bumps which keep peoples speed down.

Sefton Council have been doing this in Southport and Formby, probably Bootle and Crosby as well. Thing is they put up these signs on every street, including cul de sacs which are about 30m long and most people would struggle to get to 20 on let alone over it. Just seems a waste of money.

The 50 thing is genuinely silly

The only reason I see for the changing of national speed limits to 50mph is cash generation from speeding fines.

You rarely see a speed camera in a 50mph zone out in the country.

There are loads of crashes on country lanes, hence the drop in speeds. But seeing as no one pays any attention the figures remain the same.

I only noticed by chance the other day that the one section of A34 between Cannock and Walsall that was a 50mph limit, has suddenly dropped to 40mph with no signs to warn of the change. Its littered with speed cameras too.

One good thing about the cruise control in the new car is i can just set it to the legal limit for the road i'm on and let the car do the driving for me.

I use cruise control a lot.

The jag has a speed limiter too which you can set and drive normally, it stops you getting too fast. I usually set it 20kph over the limit just in case :)
