Hi

the last few days Ive been having problems getting my bike to start

Its a 2005 Daytona 600 its done almost 39k miles

its cranking over fine and when it does start it runs fine

today it started fine first time I rode to Halfords, getting back on to ride home it refused to start, the dash sweeps all lights fine cranks fine but apart from a couple of splutters nothing It stayed like that till I got a flat battery, called rac and got a jump start which got it cranking till I eventually started.

it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the temperature of the bike as I had the same issues going home after work

rac man seemed to think it was a fueling problem

any common problems it might be?

I had a similar issue ... changed the battery and starter motor and it went away
Not sure which of the 2 contributed to the issue

When was the last time you changed the plugs ?

DO you know when the fuel filter was last changed? Mate had a similar problem and that was the cause in the end.

Plugs are about 5k old
never changed the fuel filter is it in the tank attached to the pump?

Yup it is mate. Easy to change, but requires you to empty tank, remove it , and remove the pump/filter assy from the bottom of the tank. I'd eliminate all the easy access stuff first, but it would be up there on my list of suspects.

why do I allways have a full fuel tank when I need to take it off

right filter changed seems to have done the trick, and I didn't have to empty it out easy peasy, I also changed the spark plugs while it was off I blew through the old filter and there was a lot of resistance

good news ... have you got an aftermarket filter ??

it had a triumph fuel filter in it which hadn't been replaced in at least 6 years I didn't put a triumph one back in I went for a mahle one they work perfectly in my car
I put iridium plugs in, not sure if there much better than the standard ones but the last set lasted really well
its got a K&N air filter that just gets cleaned every time the tank comes off

Glad you got it sorted mate. Mahle make the triumph one anyway, that model is rebranded across a lot of bikes. I bought a BMW branded one after discovering a cross reference chart. Got the bike shop to bring out both. Confirmed they were exactly the same. Except Triumph one was over twice the price.
