Just some eBay cheapies, a few on the XR group are using them and say they're ok. Hopefully should be here tomorrow so can let you know Etsy they're like when I've fitted them.

Are those the "Night Racer" ones you recently fitted before Christmas D6Nutz.? -If so then they shouldn't have to buy replacements, as they must have a lifespan of more than that, surely.?

Oh & whilst I'm a big believer in LED technology in general, retrofitting LED lamps in headlamps has a while to go before it is the way forward imho.
Good luck.

Yes to your first question, they were the night racers. They were advertised as having a shorter life than standard, but I'm very unimpressed with the actual life.

RE, retrofitting LED's, I'm inclined to agree hence why I've used others opinions and not spent too much incase they're crap.

Can you fit some auxiliary lights, Jon?

I've got a wiring harness and lights, just waiting for some brackets to be delivered. It has to be fitted to the battery though, anything that connects to the canbus system is £300+ fit s pair

That would put their lifespan at less than 100hrs .? - Afik halogen headlamps used to have an expected life of around 1000hrs.?
So that would suggest to me that either the "shorter life" is ridiculously short at 1/10th of a normal one (which I struggle to believe) or the lamp has failed prematurely.
Of course, to fulfil a demand for bright lamps, Osram may simply over-run the tungsten filaments of their lamps.: That will inevitably offer huge increases in light emission, but the higher temperature & amperage that the metal wire would be exposed to in order to achieve that, would inevitably have a catastrophic effect on lifespan. -That would not be a very environmentally responsible approach to vehicle lamp production. :^

There would be very little benefit to Osram in supplying overcurrent to the filament. To produce a brighter bulb that lasts as well as others they would need to look at ways of making it more efficient:
Thicker filament
Better material
Better gas
Better cooling

I can't imagine they just overcurrent the sh!t out of it and tolerate 1/10th of the life.. not at the prices they charge!

Precisely (nod)
So it seems to me that D6Nutz's lamp must have failed prematurely & that he should be looking into a FOC warranty replacement.?

I would at least be querying it.

The downside is that you are likely not a trained lightbulb fitter so they could just throw it back at you saying you installed it incorrectly.

I say, "don't ask, don't get"... they have a good reputation and will likely do something by way of a good will gesture

For less than £20 to replace them, I can't be arsed to chase for a replacement. IF (and it's a big if) the LED replacements are suitable then they should be good for 10,000+ hours. I'm sure the bike will be worn out by then.

I tried a few LED bulbs in my last car and the beam pattern was always off but some were better than others, the smaller the LED array the better as it more closely mimics the filament of a halogen bulb.

In the high beam where pattern is not as critical they were awesome, really bright and clear.

Finally found some time to swap over the headers/collector on the GB400TT.

The old ones had been wrapped and were badly corroded. Also these headers are a double wall tube and found the inner tubes has corroded out and were rattling around loose in the outer tubes. So definitely a worthwhile swap out.

Oooooh... shinnyyyyyy!!

I really want to finish putting the bike back together but where it's been sat for months with the engine open I'm going to wait a week until I can borrow my friends dehumidifier, run that for a few days or a week and then put it back together.

Finally fitted the dash cam, lots of panels off to route the cables and relocated the DIN socket to the rear of the bike for power.

Also fitted the LED headlights, as expected the beam pattern isn't as good as the original. But that said the light output is good and they adjusted well so I'm going to give them a whirl on Monday and see how they are while riding, and how many cagers they piss off (bandit)

The versys and the Honda have had a wash. The Honda has got a stone chip on the front which I'm pissed off about. On the plus side the new wheels scrub up very well.

Humm..... Maybe the cage would have been a better choice this morning, it was a tad slippery.. Impressed with the camera quality though, youtube as compressed the vid a bit so has pixelated more than the original.
