All the talk of BMW's on perkies thread made me want to ride mine. Looks like I'm the only daft one out though.Image

So that didn't go to plan...

The plan was, pop down so bahnstormer to get the left switch gear replaced as the cruise control switch had broken.

It started well, I got there and dropped the bike off. Cheekily asked if there was a loaner or demo bike so I could wiz down to loomies for a cuppa and bacon roll. Was given the keys to a GS1250 low and buggered off.

One bacon roll and a bit of a hoon later I returned to the dealers where the informed me there where one or two other issues with the bike.

I've basically done a Frankie on the front and rear pads, plus the chain and sprockets are knackered. They haven't got the chain set in so I've left the XR with them and kept the GS for four of days.

While I was there I had a with the sales guy who sold me the XR about the new 900 and 1000 XR's. They have a 900 in the showroom but not a demo yet. Sitting on it, it feels like a very nice riding position, very relaxed. It's a narrow bike though. If feels very well put together and has the nice new TFT dash.

Its not 'done a Frankie' unless you also rode down a steep mountain, in torrential rain with hairpin every 100 metres. :D

What sort of mileage you get out of the chain sprockets?

I imagine the mileage you do they are a reasonably common consumable and something you budget for and expect to replace.

On the commuting bike I swap mine every 12k to 15k miles regardless.

Bikes done just under 16k and their original. I was hoping to get them through the winter before replacing them.

16k is pretty good tbh. Riding all year in all conditions will take its toll as its asking alot more of the lubricants.

I gave the Versys a quick wash as well as cleaning and lubing the chain.

My brother gave me some panel wipe degreaser to try out. It's fantastic. Chain lube and road tar flick goes with one wipe. When the weather is better I'll give the bike a proper going over with it.

A good wash, dry and polish with a good scrub of the chain and ACF-50 top-up.
Also removed the Cyclops LED headlight bulb and replaced it with a Osram Night breaker laser, MOT tomorrow and I was not 100% that the LED would pass even though the beam pattern is really good!

Picked it up from BMW. New brake pads all round, and new chain and sprockets.

So glad to see the back of the GS and happy to be back on my XR despite the shite weather.

What they stink you for that Nutz ?

In my experience I've seen some service costs at BMW as very reasonable, so much it hasn't been worth me home servicing and then other jobs are where they take your eyes out.

My experience is limited to cars though so wondering what Motorad are like?

Not great to lay out after christmas but you know it's been done right with the correct parts so you have that peace of mind and as your bike is a work horse I m sure you have budgeted well for these things (y)

Will you get a year from a set with the mileage you do?

5 mile tailback on the M40 this morning because of a crash.

I felt sorry for the bloke with panniers who got stuck.
