I think it's around 4-5 months initial training, then the remainder of the two years a probationer spends training is on the job experience....so not as bad as it might seem. Especially as they'll no doubt be doubled-up when they're out & about...a further increase in real-world numbers.
That said, 20,000 doesn't sound like enough...but it's definitely a step in the right direction.

A figure of about £13,000 is banded about for the cost of training a police officer.

If you listen to what he said yesterday - cutting corporation tax, raising spending on schools, increasing policing, increasing access to broadband, raising the higher rate of income tax to £80k, preparing for No Deal Brexit - it's all election promises. I'm convinced he's gearing up for an autumn general election.

Don't get me wrong, I genuinely hope he's successful and we get out of the EU with a "Great" deal. Then the BREXIT party can crawl back under its rock and the racist turds this whole fiasco has emboldened can **** off back to all-day drinking sessions at Wetherspoons.

But he won't get a deal that parliament will pass, so we're back to another general election and very probably a Tory/BREXIT party government sh!t show.

The Tories need to make an early decision about their approach towards the Brexit Party. Do they join forces now or go all out to rubbish them? I think the No Deal bluster is designed to bring back the BP voters.

Better to look forward than back. Mistakes have been made but let's be positive about correcting them.

My job is changing rapidly. A computer will be doing it all in ten years time. Dealing with HMRC is a joke. They have staff with no knowledge and who have to use a flowchart to answer tax questions.

Banks know about every penny you spend and when, where (as in the exact spot) and how you spent it. (See the new Barclays ad on TV). It won’t be long before the tax man makes good use of this. They are part way to that already.

My bank statement reads nappies, McDonald's, pizza hut, Chinese takeaway, and aldi. And after all that the nappies are for me.

Fwiw I wouldn't have thought that Boris would have agreed to have taken on the role, unless "Team Brex-up the UK" had got a very viable plan for dealing with this.
