Kwacky, there's no reason for rent to be charged as Mortgages can be paused.

Few landlords have mortgages for commercial properties.

A lot of businesses are still being asked to pay rent. A few have been told that the rent is suspended, but they still owe the rent at the end of the suspension period.

Mortgages are paused, the mortgagee still owes the money its just added to the debt.

In the short term, there should be no reason for small business not tp pay their rents as thats what the Govt grant payable through the rates system is for.

That's why i cant see things being shut down for long.

I listened to the Govt media briefing yesterday and they are ramping up the ability to treat people with the respiratory problems that some people get.

We now have far more beds available than are currently required. As long as they can still be in that position by the end of May, i suspect we might see a structured return to work.

They may have the beds but they don't have the equipment. Beds are only half of the problem.

Interest is still accrued and the money owed is to be recalculated. Surely, a business unable to run due to government rules doesn't need to pay for rent as they are unable to operate and the rent is on the basis of an operating company?

Which is why the Govt has given them money to pay it. If property values fall significant the Government will be ****.

A news feed from the Sun (facepalm) says we will be back in work and out of lock down by June.

If that's not absolute gospel, I dont know what is (giggle)

I don't even think holding off until June is likely. The current situation just doesn't seem sustainable.... timelines like June might as well read as "indefinitely".

I'm holding out hope for June as we have our honeymoon booked for then. But it's unlikely.

I honestly cant see it go past the end of May.

There will be pressure from airlines and other big sectors of industry needing to get their buisness function again, but if nothing else the Goverment hasnt got the money to keep paying out.

Putting a load of people on a plane with recirculating air con isnt very sensible though is it ,people will have to adjust and realise a holiday in the UK is all thats on offer until its safe
I have flights booked for Italy in August and would love to go but not until its safe,Its the testing we need to get people back to work who are safe to do so

The problem is even the cleverest of medical scieintists are learning about the virus and how it works and spreads. They still have little to work on.

The story this morning about it now infecting tigers in a zoo in America and the belief that they may have caught it from their keeper is quite scary.

2019 - Meet someone and shake hands.

2020 - Meet someone and give them Spock's Vulcan Salute instead. (rock)

Now that's what I call progress!

Yes I think your right Perkles. Fortunately we had already booked 2 English holidays ages ago, just hope they go ahead for the kids sake if not mine (lol) There June and July so fingers crossed.

So far I've cancelled our family Easter holiday, a Euro Trackday Holiday and a city break we had planned. Not sure how much we will get back either :?

I do think people will be back at work sooner rather than later. But, I think the antibody test kits will be the key. If you test positive to having antibodies then you'll be sent back to work.

Even that has issues from what i heard on the radio yesterday as they don't yet know how long the virus would remain contagious to others from those who have had it and beaten it.

They don't know if having recovered from Covid-19 actually leaves you immune. Because they mutate so frequently, with many other coronavirus (like the common cold) you are still susceptible to infection after having recovered.

It may be that we will all just have to accept that it is here, and (like the flue virus) it can strike us down at any time.?

It will mutate as that is the nature of a virus but I think generally that they become less rather than more dangerous.

In other news Boris is now in intensive care.

Obviously I hoped he recovers. That's not good.

In worse news Dominic Raab is in control of the country (fubar)
