S1000xr would be a complete commuting weapon

Cracking looking bikes but about £5k more than the SX.

To be honest, I think a Versys 650 is all you need for commuting..

Save the £££ and put it towards a toy - something like the 2016 ZX10R ;)

I think it depends if you commute and tour on the SX or just commute. The Versys would be great for just commuting imo and then a nice shiny sports weapon would be good. If only the ZX6r could be rescued you could trade it too and change the fleet :)

I've just bought a new SX in blue, previously I had a 2011 green / black bog standard version.
I tried the BMW S1000xr, but couldn't reach the floor properly, I don't commute as I have a job
that entails working from home and comes with a van. I didn't particularly like the tracer, or the
new Suzuki either, that was a bit "vibey" so I had another SX, as you say a bargain at the moment.
I could've been tempted by the S1000r or the new MT10 but I've got used to the bit of weather protection
which is just as well really, it's rained every time I get the bike out so it's not got many miles on it yet. Plus
they are way too much of a beast for me, I tried a ZZR 14 last year, but it was a bit heavy for me,
eye wateringly quick though.
I have the option to work tomorrow, which looking at the weather forecast, I think I will take up.
Birmingham here I come. :(

No, I only picked it up on Friday last week, the weather was crap from then on, I've got a job to do first thing in the morning in the centre of B'ham and it looks like rain coming in after that.
I live up the M42 between the M1 and M42, two and a half hours to get home from B'ham tonight, unfortunately I have to drive it, mind you it was wet. I wasn't over keen on this years Green so I went blue, I like it.

I got mine covered in ACF50 and that seems to work. I ride in all weathers, it doesn't really bother me.

I'm of an age where the joints are creaky when it's wet, but I'm getting used to it now.
Went out for three hours last night and got wet, I replaced the headlight bulbs and they are a good mod for sure.
I'm just trying to get some miles on it to get the first service out of the way, hopefully next week.

Kwacky have you consider the MT10 ?

It has an awesome write up in PB mag and has a wide range of accessories from screen to panniers to heated grips, very BMW / Ducati like.

Has all the electronics and is 5 grand cheaper than the R1 it shares alot of technology with.

Worth a read of the review and possible a test ride.

I can't get over the looks. But I've not seen one in the flesh yet

Granted its fugly but if the price is right, she rides well, makes you grin and fits the bill, possibly looks could be forgiven especially if it's a second bike and you have a sportsbike still. Just a suggestion.

I think the fact the looks are in contention is a good thing for a commuter. With Fluro wheels and bright light along with a face that a mother could hate is surely going to get you noticed - isn't that a good thing in commuting terms

I've ridden most colour bikes: yellow, green, black, white, red to name a few. You don't get seen any more or any less. If someone looks, they'll see you. If they don't look, they won't.

Kwacky not sure if of any interest but had a email from local dealer who are doing the Speed Triple R, the Ohlins version for £8999 which seems cheap as I think there normally over £11000.

More info here if your interested.
