Insurance are gits! Least you've secured your possession and should be a nice deterrent.

I have two separate policies but tbh the insurance on a 125 scooter fully comp was about £80 with ncd.

I was quoted just over £1,000 yesterday with my current insurer. They couldn't add the SX to the zx6r policy so gave me a quote without NCB.

Looks like I'm going with Carole Nash as I've used them in the past and they've come in with a decent quote just for the SX. As the zx6r's insurance expires in July they recommend I wait until July then add the 6r to the SX policy. Plus I'll be able to add another year's NCB.

I've had two bikes for about half of my biking life and I've never had a problem before just adding one. No idea why it's been so difficult this time. Or why it's so expensive. That theft claim seems to be the biggest issue. If I had a garage my premium would tumble. Thing is the bikes are safer the way I've got them but it seems like insurance companies seem more interested in how long I've lived in the UK and my marital status than the security I'm using (headbang)

I remember when I tried to swap my insurance from the Hornet to th CB1R and was told that my current insurer wouldn't insure me for the new bike so they had to search for another insurer although I was two weeks from getting a years ncd, the price they quoted me was close to £800 !!!! So I did my own search and got for less than half that price.

Having a garage may not reduce your premiums according to this article.

http://www.uswitch.com/car-insurance/wh ... ce=uswitch" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It would appear that of most thefts in your area are from garages then the street is a statistically safer place to park.. (headbang)

That's based on car theft not bike theft which is a different kettle of fish. How many cars have you seen lifted into the back of a transit van ? Also it states some of the reason for higher premiums when Parking in a garage is because the car driver bangs the car and claims for repairs not because of theft.

Unfortunately the logic is that if its easy for you or me to get to get our own bike out, then its easy for some scum to steal it too.

I think many get very complacent with their garage as they think out of sight out of scum's mind, but it is possible to make things very difficult for them with the right additions.

Up and over garage doors are a piece of piss to open with just a piece of bent metal.

there are arguments for an against garages. Out of sight for the bike also means out of sight for the thieves. It gives them cover to deal with your security.

Sadly scooters are grouped with motorbikes when it comes to insurance and most scooters are nicked off the street.

I've had 2 bikes nicked from the street and I would desperately love to have a garage but that is personal choice! If I had a garage that means I could beat the little shits up in darkness/ out of site when I hear anyone tapering with the garage door haha!!

I would prefer a garage as well. But that's more for me to be able to work on the bike rather than security, although I am sure they would be more secure.

not today but over the last few days have been tinkering with the bike since locking it away in november. oil, filter, brake pads, general strip/grease/rebuild of nuts/bolts etc, all ready for its first track day, just needs a clean now.
