Re: Government Cock-Ups and Lies
High speed rail travel is brilliant.
Watched a programme about it last night, not HS2 but Countries who already have it working. The bullet train in Japan is so good it took cars off the motorways and reduced air travel significantly.
Have a look at Vector trains where they can run by a system of pumps and vacuums. Brunel tried to make it work over a century ago but engineering lacked the ability to make the pumps work at the time.
Engineers are also developing a system that works without any friction between train and rail by using super cooled metals and magnets.

Re: Government Cock-Ups and Lies
I agree, the bullet-train is great...but it's been around since the mid-'60s, & planning for it began before/during WW2...it took over 20 years to get it going - although I'll grant you they stopped working on it towards the end of the war, and for about a decade after that.
We're well over 50 years on from that time, looking at what, being another decade at least away from a similar system coming online?? It just doesn't seem realistic to me, not in this day & age, nevermind the next one.

Re: Government Cock-Ups and Lies
Bullet train has been updated a number of times. The latest versions travel in excess of 200mph.
The SCmaglev train has been tested at speeds up to 600km/h or 375 mph.

By the time the UK has got the HS2 up and running it will be out of date technology.

I don't think we can criticise Japan for building something several decades ago that's still effective today.

Re: Government Cock-Ups and Lies
Not criticizing it at all. I'm just saying that their system has been in place for a long time, and that both their rail-lines and their rolling-stock have evolved together.
This HS2 idea seems to want to skip a few generations.....which is fine for something like The Channel Tunnel, a clean slate....not so much for a system already in-place.
Maybe.

Its not a system that's already in place. That's the whole idea.
Its a brand new line, trains and stations.

Well...the IFS is saying that they should rise....doesn't mean that they will. Definitely not a good portent though.

Come on, admittedly Darren is a bit of a dick but he’s no threat to society!

The Daily Mail don't seem to be happy with Cummings
