Limiting a vehicle to the speed limit is different to what it's top speed is. There not talking of limiting tops speeds.

99% of Derbyshires roads are a maximum of 50mph as there a virtually no national speed limit sections.

Would I buy a Porsche limited to 50mph? No.

Totally agree mate, I also don't think there is either, but there is a big market for such vehicles and alot of manufacturers have invested heavily in developing vehicles capable of such all the same.

I'm just wondering how that will pan out tbh.

The performance will still be there up to a top speed.

Another way round it is automatic speeding fines. You already give consent to the car maker to track your car, it wouldn't take much to extend that consent to the police.

Imagine the outrage though.

Well...performance has outstripped the law. When I was a bairn few cars could get into triple digits....now they all can...comfortably.
I know I've done some stupid speeds in cars....especially back in my 20's. Not since..not really.
A bike is all about performance....I always hit triple digits on a bike...just about every time out...I'd almost make a point of it.

Not saying we haven't, but personally speaking I wasn't aware I had given the manufacturer this consent?

How and when will this have happened?

Didn't all the major manufacturers already agree to limit their top speeds to 155mph?

I know BMW have limited cars to 155mph

However I can verify Porsche have not

The motor industry is about to undergo a huge change in the way operates. My guess is that the range of different models will decrease substantially.

We take car ownership as the norm but it's only been that way in our life time. My parents could not afford a car for a number of years after they were married. The younger generations don't seem to have anywhere near as much interest in cars and bikes. Something will come along to replace car ownership just as it did horses, push bikes, motorbikes......

I think BMW, Mercedes, & AUDI did it years ago to pre-empt the Naz....er German govt. from slapping some potentially more restrictive conditions on their cars.
And I remember reading something about tyres factoring into it, maybe?

Someone needs to get in touch with D6 so he can stop any of this news reaching Triumph or it will kill any chance or a Daytona 765RS

Blade, it's in the contract. The amount of information modern cars carry and collect is unbelievable. And there's more than one chip gathering data.

Mercedes, Audi and BMW all retain possession of some of the data collectors in their cars.

I presume there's some paperwork involved when a new car is bought.

It will probably be assumed you accept it when you put the key in the ignition.
