I tried the Hypermotard briefly...they're an absolute blast, a ticket waiting to happen...anyone who has ever ridden a dirtbike knows just how much fun they can be...well, the Hypermotard is a bigger and unfortunately heavier version made for the street...on tight twisties it will smoke all but the most committed sportbike rider....those big wheels just work in your favour, although TBH I'm not sure if the one I rode had aftermarket wheels on it or not...never thought about it until now??

My only complaint would be that for me at 5'10"ish, it's a really tall bike, which made me a bit nervous at slow speeds...that, and the bars are REALLY wide....I was too scared to filter on the thing, and the mirrors don't help...even though they fold, you're still aware of how wide the thing is.
Now my my mate that owns it, he's a big guy like you, and has zero problems ergonomically....his main gripe is the tank range....they say it's about 100 miles, but realistically it's about 80....prolly wouldn't bother me, 'cos with it's altered gearing my old Daytona got very poor mileage....not a dealbreaker, but something that's always in the back of your mind when you're up in the mountains or some other remote spot.

Thats what I thought (y)

And to be honest, that was the main thing I was looking for in a new bike.

Yep, agreed. It looks like it's designed to be thrashed.

Has it got a hooligan mode?

Done a bit of digging on an Aprilia forum and found the current owner and the problems he has had with the bike (you have to love the power of google)

1) He dropeed the bike twice not long after buying it and replaced the damaged fairing panels. Originally it was red, as per pictures, the panels are now black.
2) He had a problem with a leaking fork (post the drop) which he said he was going to fix with new seals and oil
3)Electrical probelms - Starting and battery issues. This seems that it may be a common problem post-washing the bike (I have owned and currently own italian car so know their electrics are tempermantal)

1 & 3 i dont really have an issue with but 2 sounds like it may have been a damaged fork rather than just seals. I will obiously discuss this with the current seller (he is away until friday) but what are your general thoughts. If you knew of the above problems with a bike, would you still go ahead with a purchase?

If you're in no rush to buy I would carry on looking. There's always going to be those nagging doubts now you know about the issues.

If he hasn't declared them to you before purchase I'd run a mile. Plenty of used bikes on the market for that money.

As has been said if your in no rush then don't do it IMO.

I would still buy,at least you know the problems it's had most 2nd hand bikes have had niggles or knocks

I'd agree with perkles, apart from one fact.

He hasn't disclosed those faults, what else is there that he hasn't mentioned online, or you haven't found yet.

There would be too many niggles for me, and there are many more bikes out there.

Ask him if he's had any issues with it. If he's honest you'll be able to make a judgement call. If he's notgod knows what else he's hiding!!

On wednesday I sent him the points I made above and asked him how he resolved the fork issue. He has not responded yet :?

i am willing to go ahead with the purchase if he has fixed the fork issue. As a few said above, these things happen on bikes, but I just want to make sure he has resolved any problems.

Personally if you can find another I would steer clear. An Aprilia with issues can be your worst biking nightmare.
