Trying to sneak 4 slightly ill children into school an nursary. Sarah is working away in London and I've got to be in Nottingham for 10.30. Thank god for Calpol and chocolate advent calendars!

Re: What are you doing today ??
Deciding whether to achieve a Zen-like state and remain composed and calm, or whether to just have a big f*****g meltdown and kick something to pieces.
Let me set the scene...
I'm out here in Qatar, doing my bit for Queen and country and all that.
I was originally told I'd be home by the 21st of December.
Three weeks in, I was told my tour was being extended until 31st. Bummer.
About 7 weeks later I was told "nope, now it's the 22nd". O...k....
3 weeks ago, I still didn't have a flight date. Someone told me that one of the guys out here responsible for the movement of troops could allocate UK personnel spaces on US flights. Now this was a bonus as the base it flew to directly is about 40 minutes from my home.
Given the choice of taking a direct, 8 hour flight home, or waiting to see if I would maybe get allocated a flight with a possible 48 hour travel/wait/travel again time before Christmas, or maybe not depending on if anyone could give me a straight f*****g answer, I took the US option.
I tell the family I'm coming home on Sunday.
I get a phone call this morning to say that all UK troop movement on the US flights has been sh*t-canned.
The seat I would have had on the UK flight has already been allocated to get somebody else home for Christmas.
...
So far, I've remained calm.
I've also booked a civvy flight home. See you all on Saturday!

Re: What are you doing today ??
Glad you're getting back Itchy
Feeling pretty stiff and sore today, pins and needles are still there but rather mild now, just feels itchy more than anything. Completely lost my appetite for some reason but haven't puked so thats a good sign the medic says. Embarassing bit is I have to lead the Safety Meeting on sunday (I was before the head donging, as I've just done my Offshore HSE Rep training)

Blimey itchy. Are you allowed to take a civvy flight? If so do you have to pay?

Getting cold..... They are still messing about with the gas lines down my street, today they are moving the meter from inside my house to outside... Somehow I am not convinced that its only going to be a day.
