Yup, but actually up here a few days earlier as I have to do my helicopter underwater escape re-cert training. So I get to hang out in Darwin in a hotel for a couple of days then go into the company quarantine camp. Then 3 weeks offshore and 2 weeks govt quarantine on way back.

It’s definitely more fun doing a tropical based course than a cold water one!

I can imagine. You can't think straight In cold water....or at least, your thinking narrows in it's scope. Or something like that.

Trying to stay awake. My son doesn't seem to understand that the rest of the house has to get up in the mornings.

So in quarantine again now.

Got the package offer from the Distillery. I had a figure in mind that would make me seriously consider the role and it was a significant amount short of that. But a very generous offer in relation to the role and the industry norm for that role.

I thought I’d would be an easy no. But it’s not. I’m still seriously considering it. The thought I may be able to put my notice in this swing has some serious weight, especially while I’m sitting in quarantine.

I’ve got a bunch of questions I want to discuss with him before I make a discussion.

Just make sure that the fact you're currently stuck in quarantine isn't driving the decision. I know the swings suck but the job does allow you time with the family and the money to enjoy a lot of things. I presume that the job at the distillery will be full time so you'll only have weekends free (provided you're not at the end of emails and phone calls).

I took 40 minutes out in my working day to purchase some timber and do a food shop. A new Lidl opened up by us and it's lovely in there. Friendly staff, friendly customers who actually keep their distance and notice you are there, and plenty of choice with decent prices.

It helps to settle an outstanding debt and buy that Sprint ST so overall it's worth it... I think.

I’ve just turned the job down. Lots of factors that swayed me in the end but seeing out the next 2 yrs offshore is going to be the best for my position and my family for a lot of the reasons including what you mentioned above.

Getting through trips away are going to be a bit easier mentally now I have a plan and an end in sight.

That looked like a surprisingly tough decision despite the low pay. Hopefully 2 years more graft and you'll be sorted for finding an enjoyment job!

Tough call mate, but I think a good call. Eyes on the prize, 2 years isn't that long in the grand scheme of things.

Hopefully the vaccine program in aus will work well and the quarantine addition to the swing will quickly become a thing of the past.

Fair enough - you did give it plenty of consideration. At least now you know your path.

Nothing. We had a dumping of snow yesterday. It froze over night and it's freezing cold all day today.

Bracing for rain. We're supposed to getting two year's worth of rain in the next four days....... not quite sure how that's going to work, but I guess I'll find out soon enough.
