Feck all,..... I was going to take the bike out for a little spin, opened the back door, and the cold hit me like opening the fridge on a warm hot summers day.....

Good luck, Kiwi and stay safe!
I've just been to a communication meeting which has only raised more questions and made the entire office deflated.
They refuse to comment on anything relating to redundancies and just keep stating, "we're going to be issuing cost saving measures". Either that's pay cuts or job losses given the fact they won't say no to redundancies.
Motivation is below zero and as soon as my manager goes for his next meeting I'm going to look at more jobs.

Just seen this Kiwi. Stay safe buddy. I realise you have comprehsensive skills in fire fighting and management of major emergencies but dont be a hero buddy, know when to get out and sound the Papakiwikrasher wrote:Yup. It’s always get out early here, because of the topography the fire tends to burn up to the crest and over shoot embers and start further down the slope effectively trapping you. So if you are going to leave, leave early.D6Nutz wrote:Crap, not good mate.kiwikrasher wrote:Trying not to die in 40 deg heat and heavy heavy smoke. Have you got any evacuation plans just in case?

I’d get the kids out but I’m going to stay. I have a heavy duty petrol powered fire pump, 50 metres of hose and 38,000L of pool water for supply. I have my full turnout gear (fire fighting kit) from the refinery and my garage is double brick with a slate floor above it, so a good sanctuary for a flash over. I also have extensive fight fighting training up my sleeve.
I’ve discussed my plan with the local Rural Fire Chief last time fires were close, and I was one of two people in the street to be approved to stay during the evacuation.

Winds are more favourable today and from Sunday we have some rain forecast so hopefully that helps the RFS out.
Today will be spent cleaning the pool (kids starting swimming season yesterday, and it filled up with leaves overnight because I left the cover off

and trimming back trees and bushes close to the house, and checking gutters are clear of leaves etc.
You’d be surprised to learn that gutters are a leading cause to house fires from flying embers. Dry leaves etc catch alight and burn up under the eaves and spreads into the roof. Last time we had an ember attack I plugged my down pipes and kept the gutters full of water.

Work and applied for another job with a sister company, it hadn't shown up in any searches as it's internal applicants only so already being employed within the group I was approved and sent some online assessments.
Fingers crossed.

I've not been for ages. My old legal stomping ground. At one point I was there about 5 times a week

Fitted the underbody protection plates to the 4WD
Replaced the 1 mm tin and plastic panels with 3mm stainless steel units.
