I just leave mine a gear lower and let the big twin spin, anything under 4K seems to shake the bike so I have to be cruising above 75 to hit 6th.
There is a software update out for the suspension to bring it up to 2019 spec and it is supposed to smooth the vibes out a bit too, mine will get all that on it's service in August... EVERYTHING in sport and keep the revs above 6K makes me giddy, it can hunt sports bikes with it's panniers on, which must crush the ego of those riders (Like those tarts on the IOM with 1" chicken strips on S1000RR's). Or they just think "hooligan!" and keep riding at 125 pace.

I did get a call today, out of the blue from my local friendly BMW dealer, "We now have a R1250RS on demo if you would like to book in for a ride?"

And you describe exactly why the GT is perfect as a back lane blaster or long distance tourer perfectly. If I was looking for a fun bike is bob on, but as a daily commuter spending most of its life between 65 and (ahem 70 officer) its just not as much fun.

Erm, even the dealer I spoke too basically said it wasn't the right bike for me.. that was after I mentioned the fun factor of the KTM.

Ha ha don't get more wrong, very capable bike, for the right person, I don't see Nutz or it or you for that matter (or me)
Same with the GS and GSA, I did not see you on them either. But hey tastes change I suppose for people.

The writeups are as much for my benefit, a little bit of time can cloud your initial impressions of a bike. As this will be the most I have ever spent on a bike and is going to be in use every day it has to be the right bike.

I reckon a KTM SMT 990 would be perfect. They haven't made them new for a while so the issue will be finding one with sensible miles for your use.

here is one.

Kawasaki Birmingham sold a new z1000sx with the touring kit last week for £8750

That's a fecking bargain.

That's insane.

I've just got back from taking the XR out for a proper test ride. And hour of back roads, fast technical a roads, and dull dual carriageway. The XR takes it all in its stride and makes it feel effortless.

The handling is great and the suspension soaks up all the bumps with ease. The rider mode switch is the best of any of the bikes I've tried and the difference between street and dynamic is like jekyll and hyde. Street is smooth, comfortable, easy. You can cruise at 50-60 in 6th and it will still roll on comfortably, perfect for commuting. Turn it up to dynamic and the beast is awoken, I lifted the front a couple of times when cracking on. The shifter and blipper are positive and the blip makes you feel like a riding god every time.

They have a bike in stock at the moment. 2017 bike with 11k on the clock. Top spec se sport at a fiver under £10k. I have to admit I'm tempted, it works out to £81 a month on PCP for 3 years with a final payment of £4k.Image

Yep, the ktm is the deposit. £3750, could get more privately but I've not had a lot of interest so far.
