Wow, what an experience...

The weather tried it's best to mess things up but it wasn't happening.

Monday morning started a bit slowly, may be a beer or two too many on Sunday (blush) also not helped by the insurance company sending me the wrong policy..

Out on track for a slow and slippery couple of sighting laps, then back into the pits and on with the warmers. Spent half hour or so watching Mick and Frankie having a play on wets while things died out a bit. Finally by late morning got to go and play, 5 or 6 laps and back in to check things over. No Rev counter as it doesn't wasn't play, no camera as it won't stay on, and the rear tyre was tearing up a bit. Dropped 2psi on the rear and ignored the other issues and went back out. Much better, then the fun really started as the track dried. The tarmac is very smooth and the supercorsas where like chewing gum and gave so much confidence and feedback, confidence was reasonably high.

I started getting to the point at the end of the day where I was stringing together corners rather than just riding from one corner to another. A few tips from other riders had helped find better lines.

Tuesday saw a similar start to the day with the weather, but then a weird sensation on the first session. I've never done a 2 day event before and it's very strange starting the day on warmers and going out fast on the first couple of laps. Things just got better and faster as the day went on, by lunch I felt I was riding an entire lap and if a corner was buggered up the whole lap was slower.

While we had lunch I got the rear changed as it was starting to slide in the faster left hand corners. What a difference... The afternoon was getting faster and a change of line into a lot of corners helped.

The banter and crack during the day was nothing like I have ever experienced on a track day.

Big thanks BBS. I've already mentioned next year to Mrs nutz and as I'm still able to walk is not a no..... Think I may have a pic or two, but Frankies well be better, no video as the camera wouldn't play :(

Well what can I say that already hasn't been said !.
The first morning was a tad damp so me & Frankie put the wets on and away we went, the track had already to dry out at this point so we only got about 6-7 laps in and the tyres looked a bit worse for wear (giggle) , so back on with race tyres and away we went. I really enjoyed riding on the wets as ive never used them before and TBH those laps were some of the ones I enjoyed most.
I struggled for the rest of the 2 days I just felt absolutely drained most of the time, I was managing about 5-6 laps at most and having to come in feeling absolutely shattered and a bit unwell at some points. So I just made a point of having little blasts out for 5-6 laps at a time for the whole 2 days sometimes not even that. I was even in bed early feeling that tired :(
Still a great 2 days though and like John said the banter was brilliant and the piss taking was funny :D , its a real friendly atmosphere and the open pit lane is a great way to do TD's IMO.
I shall be certainly trying to do Almeria next year but on the 999s, I am selling the blade if anyone is interested ;)
I have uploaded a quick vid of Frankie and some others getting some last blasts out at the end of the 2nd day, I was out of the leathers by then as I had had enough.

Sorry to hear you weren't 100% mate.

But still, you were in Spain on a track day so it's not all bad news :D

It was a great 2 days, but just never felt so drained of energy like that before.

Not yet, it will be April and a second date I believe in May... 3 days April / 2 May.. I will be doing the three day one all being well. I like the hotel, the track and everything about the Almeria trip.

Dates wont be up until they are back from Jerez.

I am sooo jealous. A euro track day is very high on my list of things to do.
Forgive the stupid question but I take it there are no skill groups on an open pit lane day? If so, how do they cope with riders of different abilities?

Sensible question mate. New riders and experienced riders new to the track are asked to wear bibs. That way the faster and more experienced riders know and can give extra space when overtaking.

It works incredibly week with the BBS guys. I was happy to take my bib off on the second day.

They where scrubs from the mini-twins, but had only done a single session. The front is still good, the rear lasted about a day (taking into consideration the late start) there is still some life left but not much (happy)
