Re: Rizoma or Gilles
Those are nice. I'd get the heel plates powercoated black. They would look very good. I agree some carbon fibre ones look terrible.. They wear quickly too..

Re: Rizoma or Gilles
I got carbon heel plates for mine but had to cover them in clear film otherwise they would have been rubbed to death

Re: Rizoma or Gilles
carbon fibre would already be lacquered either matt or gloss,i think carbon would look good so what if it wears a bitBlade wrote:Confused aren't they lacquered when new ?

Re: Rizoma or Gilles
Yep but I'm advocating a layer of good quality lacquer, the harder wearing stuff. I think Halfords do a heavy duty version in a can. Something like that.Blade wrote:Confused aren't they lacquered when new ?

I think I will leave hand painting them with lacquer, I don't think it would turn out very well IMO.

I quite like how the carbon heal plate wear and how you get the layers coming through

I think it's spray.
I've got a spare set. I might give it a go. Me and Perkles can get high off the fumes.

Re: Rizoma or Gilles
I'd be leaning towards using a resin coating rather than a lacquer, then it's just another layer of the original contstruction rathaer than a different product. Plus the resin self levels to a degree. It is a repair procedure we used on fibreglass and CF in aircraft maintenance. But seeing a few of Perkles work related posts he'll be all over that with far more knowledge than myself.Kwacky wrote:Blade wrote:I think I will leave hand painting them with lacquer, I don't think it would turn out very well IMO.

Re: Rizoma or Gilles
Nope! Thats a polyester resin, not really any good for carbon fibre.. rather than me rattle on, here's some good infoKwacky wrote:Kiwi, is it something like this I need?

For the amount you'd use on heel guards I'd just get a good quality epoxy resin in the smallest size you can. Something like this should do the trick
http://www.ecfibreglasssupplies.co.uk/p ... lcoat.aspx
But my knowledge is limited and old (I haven't done and fibre work for a decade other than a few simple glassing jobs at home ) so double check with the suppliers on your intended application, and they'd steer you in the right direction if I'm giving you a bum steer.

Re: Rizoma or Gilles
I would just use clear wrap on them ,it can be easily removed when its wears and is cheap as off ebay
