Pirate Bay
Police in Sweden have found the location of their servers and seized them, so the site is shut down.
I doubt it'll be down for long.

Re: Pirate Bay
Every time they shut down one service two more start. Too many people make too much money from illegal sites for them to just disappear.

Re: Pirate Bay
I don't even know what pirate bay is
Is it like eBay for pirates ?
Guess there will be a shortage of nearly new wooden leg, eye patches and dodgy parrots now

Re: Pirate Bay
even the free to air stuff? You know a lot of people release stuff on Pirate Bay first to get their music and films out in the public? A lot of software designers do it as well.

Re: Pirate Bay
The free to air stuff is getting much harder to air for free now as well. A lot of streaming services are starting to charge the artists now for hosting stuff.
Yes there was some illegal stuff, but a lot of artist and producers forget. A decent percentage of people who download a track or two illegally are doing so to decide if they want to shell out for the album or not. And yes this does happen.

Re: Pirate Bay
If all the stuff was free to air then pirate bay wouldn't be making any money and they wouldn't do what they have been doing.

Re: Pirate Bay
You'll be surprised who pays for adverts on these sites.
These download sites have changed the way owners of media sell it and present it. Most TV shows now are aired in the uk on the same day or next day. Digital formats of media are usually available on the day of release or before.
I've seen films with edit strings on them, which means they can only have come from the studio.
The view of these sites being online pirates is outdated.

Re: Pirate Bay
I definitely agree with you there, they are politicians scape goats and smoke screens. There are billions of servers world wide hosting all sorts of illegal material, yet I bet there are only two names that the public remember. piratebay and megaupload..Kwacky wrote:The view of these sites being online pirates is outdated.
The sites you hear about publicly are the ones being used to mould public opinion and allow the governments for enforce whatever monitoring rules they feel like. Your disgusted about the monitoring that the Chinese citizens have to put up with right, just have a look at the powers the government have given themselves and ISP's since the public awareness of piratebay and megaupload. Don't believe me, then just search for the open rights group, there is a scary amount of monitoring and control going
