Alpinestars Tech ST Gore-Tex Jacket
As mentioned in the textile thread I've treated myself to a top of the range Alpinestars all round jacket.
I've not had chance to wear it on the bike yet but all being well I should tomorrow.
I've tried it on and it's a great fit. Very comfortable. The stitching looks strong and you can tell there's quality in it. They've clearly thought about the design. Not too many pockets so you don't look like a wannabe trans-asia tourer.. There are air vents front and back to allow air to flow but I'm not sure how well they'll work in the summer.
There's leather over the elbows and shoulders as well as chest and back protectors.
It's a nice bit of kit. It feels protective, unlike some of the textile jackets I've had.
The usual stuff for warmth including extra inner layer and neck wrap.

Re: Alpinestars Tech ST Gore-Tex Jacket
Rode into work this morning with the new kit on. The jacket feels very light and not at all bulky. It's a very nice bit of kit. The neck warmer comes right up at the back of the neck but isn't intrusive so I can do my lifesafers without it getting in the way.
The rear part of the jacket comes down a decent distance so it doesn't ride up when you move forward.
It was raining this morning but nothing heavy.
My only concern is how warm it's going to be when it gets really cold. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Re: Alpinestars Tech ST Gore-Tex Jacket
This jacket is a bit weird when it's cold. It doesn't seem as warm as my Hein Gericke, but the HG jacket, once the cold got in, was next to useless. My new jacket seems to keep me at the same temps no matter how long I'm out. It's not cold, but I wouldn't decribe it as feeling warm.
Can you feel tepid?

Re: Alpinestars Tech ST Gore-Tex Jacket
Intresting thread. Looking forward to seeing how well it handles the rain. The cold isn't so bad as can easily wear some extra clothes underneath

Re: Alpinestars Tech ST Gore-Tex Jacket
I reckon a thinsulate layer would be enough. At the moment I'm wearing cotton work shirts which offer no protection at all.

Re: Alpinestars Tech ST Gore-Tex Jacket
That would be it then. Have a play about with under clothes and your problems should be solved. You have spent enough on the jacket I don't think your find the jacket would be at fault

My wife told me off because I wore it the other night to take the dog for a walk.

Get yourself one of the Knox wind buddy jackets. I've got one and it works a treat over leathers when there is a bit of a chill.

Re: Alpinestars Tech ST Gore-Tex Jacket
That would be alright for over leathers but it kid of defeats the point of me buying a gore-tex jacket.

Put some kind of thermal under garment on mate and I reckon you'll be toasty.

Gore tex breaths with your body temp, that's why it's always feels the same.A thiinsulate top underneath would help, that's what I use for cycling

Re: Alpinestars Tech ST Gore-Tex Jacket
Fully tested this morning on the ride into work.
No leaks, it was almost dry on the outside when I hung it up at work. The neck wrap worked well so no water down my neck.
Very impressive.

Sounds a good piece of kit.
Quality costs but is also good value IMO.

The same as any other day. I think Perkles hit the nail on the head when he pointed out the goretex keeps it at a constant.
