It took them years to recover the development outlay on the daytona. I know the profits on sportsbikes aren't very high. They make their money on the big bikes like the cruisers and the classics.

The 675 was and preceding 600 Daytonas, were I think as much a means of giving the new company some sporty credentials.
The real cash cows are as Rich says the classics and the cruisers. Just keep them meeting emission standards and there's not much development cost at all. Hence why we ended up with the Rocket 3 rather than the hyper sports tourer they were developing at the same time.

i have not been to the nec for a long time and from the changes i picked up on were there are a lot more adventure bikes , sit up street bikes and new classics.
There were not as many free gifts :-( also a big decline in ladies wearing not many cloths. the last time i went fastbikes had a pole dancer :-)
