It's he shame he didn't throw himself off a building to find out if the advertising was false.

What a dickhead.

And his attorney too.

And the judge, who should have simply thrown it out as frivolous.

What is going on Red Bull actually settled this out of court...erm forgive me but if I was a multi million pound company I wouldn't even waste my time if it had to go to court I'd find the best legal team to sue the barstard who was wasting a company owners time! If this makes any sense atculy annoyed by this. And also what was this about compensation on every customer since 2002 what are we all penny pinchers or something...wanting something for nothing

Cheaper to settle this out of court...that's the bottom line.

I forget the stats on this kinda stuff - Kwacky can maybe provide insight - but something like 95% of this type of lawsuit never see a courtroom.

Stupid and pointless, only in america would someone even consider suing a slogan (facepalm)

The problem with the settling out of court is it must make more people think they are in with a chance of a case. If this had actually gone to court would it really have got anywhere ??? These companies are their own worst enemies.

It sounds like a $13 million advertising campaign to my cynical nature, but on the flip side hopefully it means the end of ridiculous "Strap lines" from pretentious advertising firms.

Frankly, as so often, I think it's solicitors that are to blame. (giggle)

I guess you simply need to identify for yourself a suitably successful corporation, and a patsy client to represent.?
Then again, perhaps that would the be the holy grail your profession.? :^
Or maybe the big bucks are really made from defending those institutions from the constant barrage of spurious litigation.?

Or maybe your all actually driven by a burning desire to set legal precedence & ensure that justice prevails.? (nod)

I get instructed by insurance companies to defend and deal with fatal and serious accidents. That normally means defending personal injury claims but it also involves the mess from the outset, including criminal or HSE proceedings. My clients make sure we don't get rich. My hourly rate is normally a third of what my opponent is claiming. My clients can and do reduce the amount they're prepared to pay us, unilaterally.

We had a large department devoted to defeating personal injury fraud work. Our clients learned their lessons and the instructions dried up. We've made close to 100 redundant this year just to survive.

Most lawyers aren't well paid. Those who are do corporate work for big companies. Tax advice is probably the biggest payer.

:) It seems I wasn't that far off message then mate.?

If you really want that jet plane, I suppose it would mean you'd have to make some moral sacrifices & kiss some corporate ass.

Nope. Way too late. To be that good to earn those sort of bucks I would need to be close to burnt out by now, physically and mentally.

The biggest payments to solicitors are those who work for pharmaceutical companies or so I was told recently.

Hmm....the way I read the article the bloke wasn't so much complaining that he hadn't sprouted wings, but rather that the claims made by Red Bull that it would increase mental and physical sharpness were false, as per a a study that any changes were down solely to the caffeine and not the taurine etc. As such you might just as well have a coffee as a can of energy drink. I suspect it's that claim that worried RB enought to settle out of court as that would blow open the case for drinking the filthy muck in the first place.

Interesting comments re where the lucrative areas of law are, I suppose as ever human nature is a fair compass as to where the money is to be made. However, having just had a meeting with my FA this week, I'd guess it's the driest, dustiest area of law to be involved in, so great money but little or no job satisfaction.
