Good on you mate. Add any amount of variety you can (I don't know the topology of your location) to prevent it getting too boring too quickly

I think I'll be heading to the Forest of Dean in 2 weekends time. There are 2 XC trails I want to do and also 2 DH trails.

There's a skills area including a Drop Line and a Jump Line. I'm very keen to tackle both of these. They each start tame and build up progressively. If I can't do them all when I first go I have a clear marker for future visits. These will also be a great warm up for real trails.

The first is the Blue Verderers Trail with a recently rebuilt last section. It's said to be great fun.

The other long trail is the Red Freeminers Trail. It's a bit more advanced but nothing you can't roll or ride around.

Downhill trails include Sheepskull (a mid level trail with a decent drop near the beginning), and GBU (the Good, the Bad and the Ugly) which is a Black Trail with a huge drop that I most likely won't attempt but it supposed to be great fun overall.

This is all to help me gain some confidence and enjoyment by utilising rated trails instead of backyard builds.

Went to the Forest today. Cracked my helmet.

Did the skills area drops line - good fun and good to learn on.

Then I did Verderers, Sheepskull and Flatlands before heading onto the final descent of Verderers. Really fun morning but sadly cut short.

Pumped a berm and gained more speed than I could handle. Front tyre went onto the off camber bit outside of the worn trail, hit a loose rock and I tumbled. All is well. Just need a new helmet and brake lever

25km off road this evening. Over 2 hours and 500m ascent.

HR Avg 162
HR Max 195.. I definitely pushed myself seeing as my max HR should be 193.

Nowhere near the distance of Friday's ride but the ascents were definitely push up for me right now. Its another great marker for my fitness. Total ascension was over 300m fork 5km of riding.

My ex racer friend took me to his local trails and helped me out. At the beginning I was extremely sceptical of my ability and told him "I won't be doing that" on many occasions, on a few occasions I proved myself wrong.

One trail I originally said "no way" to we did 3 times back to back. It was brilliant! Short, steep, technical and really bloody good fun.

I got out on the bike before work yesterday and got to see some lovely scenery. I also saw a Red Kite... they're making a bit of a return to Gloucestershire at the moment.

Annoyingly, multiple parts of the Severn Way were either blocked, closed or over grown.

The bicycle is the slow death of the planet.

General Director of Euro Exim Bank Ltd. got economists thinking when he said:

"A cyclist is a disaster for the country's economy: he does not buy cars and does not borrow money to buy. He does not pay for insurance policies. He does not buy fuel, does not pay for the necessary maintenance and repairs. He does not use paid parking. He does not cause serious accidents. He does not require multi-lane highways. He does not get fat.
Healthy people are neither needed nor useful for the economy. They don't buy medicine. They do not go to hospitals or doctors. Nothing is added to the country's GDP (gross domestic product).
On the contrary, every new McDonald's restaurant creates at least 30 jobs: 10 cardiologists, 10 dentists, 10 dietary experts and nutritionists, and obviously, people who work at the restaurant itself."

Choose carefully: cyclist or McDonald's? It is worth considering.

P.S. Walking is even worse. Pedestrians don't even buy bicycles.

Nearly 32km offroad this evening and a few PRs on the downhill sections and on the XC trail.

Decent top speed on the way home too.... my organic brake pads smelt very strong.

I topped 41mph last night and had fun hopping undulations at that speed. My brakes weren't thanking me though.. they got stinky again.

Just found out a good biking friend, and racer, of mine started MTB recently. Great news for me as I have someone else to ride with. He's already riding stuff I haven't had the balls to do yet... but he is a lot more daring than I :D
