Re: What are you doing today ??
After yesterday's 12 hour day it looks like I'm likely to have another.
I'm working in the large flow calibration plant and they were running the large pump all day. I also had to be on the phone to a colleague so I couldn't use earplugs because I needed to hear him. That was exhausting.
Hopefully Large Flow Cal has a, literally, quieter day today so I can hear myself think.

Went to look at a house.
Very nice inside but not quite big enough.
And the leaning telegraph pole on the driveway put me off a bit too.

Working out how to get home.
We are in the city for the weekend and we’ve had the mother of all rain falls (and still going) and the Sydney catchment dam had spilled in the river I normally cross to get home. But those bridges are now 4m under water.
The long (3hrs) way around had been closed due to a landslide but hoping it will be cleared soon.

Just woke up feeling very sore.
I detailed my brother-in-law's car yesterday.. interior, engine bay and exterior. It took 9 hours and I could barely grip the wax applicator pad by the end. Still, I earned a bit of extra wonga.

Saw another house today.
Really liked this one so we're putting an offer in tomorrow.
Also washed the car.
Not quite as exciting!

Re: What are you doing today ??
Rode the Trumpet over to a friends to help her fit a new tail tidy to her Z900, didn't have the bit's I needed for the number plate light so I convinced her to gear up and ride to mine, her first ride since September.
The tail tidy came with those cheap scotch locks which cut the insulation to join wires, , they should be banned! It got crimped connectors with heat shrink.
Then we went the scenic route back to hers and I came home again, and got bored with access to eBay, £120 ish later I have a service kit with genuine filter's, Iridium NGK plugs and fully synthetic Castrol oil on it's way... I'm really falling for this old bike and want to treat her well.

Re: What are you doing today ??
Drove 150km yesterday and am still 80km from home. Reports yesterday were conflicting wether the landslide had been cleared. Seems it was for about an hour which gave us the idea we’d get around but during our Journey a second landslide closed it again. So once we realised we couldn’t get home, we had to scramble for accommodation in Lithgow. Basically a little ex mining town and it was all booked out by the time we got there. But found a place 12 km further out next to a power station (kids thought it was cool, and gave Byron hope he’d see a Monty Burns lookalike). We’re thankful to secure there last room able to bed all 4 of us. (Jess, me and my kids. Couldn’t get to Jess’ kids yesterday due to floods and they are safe at the Dads). Luckily we’d done a precautionary mall run earlier in our trip and got toiletries/pjs/more clothes for the kids.
Been an adventure, but hopefully get home today and there is no damage there. Won’t flood as I’m in a hill but we’ve had just on 300mm in less than 48 hrs so hoping there isn’t any leaks!
These floods are worse than last years already, last time it flooded this bad was 1968 apparently.

Re: What are you doing today ??
We were lucky to get through. Shortly after we got past the slip area they closed the road again for structural instability and it’s closed for the foreseeable future. So we are isolated till the bridges open, which is going to be 4-5 days minimum.
Our area is about to get two storm cells converge on it. Today was a ‘light’ day and that was still 100mm.
We managed to get a few stores from the only grocery shop in the isolated area. But no milk, bread and hardly any meat. But we are good for about a week now.
See how much rain we get tomorrow and then deal with the outcome. Really feel for people in lower areas.

Re: What are you doing today ??
So news this morning is the road we used to get back home, which had been closed a few times due to slips is now completely structurally unsound and permanently closed till major repairs can be done. That was the only way in that isn’t under water.
The river is starting to climb again and it’s already still well above major flood levels.
They are trying to organise helicopter drops to get food and essentials across... the new name of our area is North Richmond/Kurrajong Island.
And on top of that, after days of soaking rain they are expecting 90 km wind gusts with today’s storm which is expected to bring down trees, so are having to prepare for the prospect of no power and no one able to get over to fix it.
Hopefully the 200ah of battery bank on the camper and the 12V fridge will get us through. Normally power outages are a pain as the water pump is out and we have no water to the house. But a bucket outside will be full in 10 mins so I won’t have to go dunking from the top of the tank this time
Definitely not a boring place to live these last few years!

Pulling that face you make when you miss a call from the estate agent and they leave you a very cheery sounding voicemail so you put 2 and 2 together, assume your offer has been accepted and ring them back, only to find that they've had a few similar bids and are trying to find out your best offer but you already put your best offer in.
It looks something like this...
