Zeus is known as a squatter. Lead him outside and lock him out, if he enters he's then breaking and entering and therefore will be done...bb41 wrote:This is Zeus who came to us about 3 years ago now... it was only suppose to be fostered and hasn't left

Re: The Pet Thread
Yes Rossgo we have 6 dogs, hens, ducks , turkeys, pigs and I look after the ferals in the barn plus a couple of indoor squatters too ... It takes a lot of my time .. dogs are fine as they probably sleep 20 hours a day... it's the rest that are time consuming and holidays are non existent for the past 12 years ..Husband and I went out together for the first time in 3 years last Saturday... a trip to Band Q !!! one of us is normally at home apart from when I have to go to the feed shop when he's working . I wouldn't change any of it although I am not taking on any more ex commercial ducks , hens and turkeys now. I have lost half my original flock in 3 years as they are pretty battered when they come to me from the farm.Pigs are relatively easy and only have 2 now, again victims of horrendous previous life . Downsizing is going to be interesting when we sell where we are now , but I draw the line at having the pigs indoorsRossgo wrote:Zeus is known as a squatter. Same here , we can't do it, the two big ones have only needed it once and that was done whilst they were sedated !!!C00kiemonster wrote:I often think I need one of those contraptions for cutting our dogs nailsbb41 wrote:yearly trotter trimming
The pigs are given huge doses of ketamine first .. Peter the younger male took 5 days to come round this time... very worrying

Re: The Pet Thread
Absolutely , they are part of the family , we have a lot less than we do now so we don't need as much space. The Great Danes don't exercise hardly at all, the young one is stiff on his back legs so he doesn't run often . He is 93 kg's and overly tall and narrow so he'd fall over. He has fainting fits on the odd occasion so a full on walk is out of the question. Lab is getting on and has cancer so he just mooches and goes for a wander .Rossgo wrote:Bb41. No we haven't got a farm it's a very small small holding with 3 acres and a barn . We hope to have just under an acre and a very small house as there are only 2 of us .
We both get a little fed up of maintaining everything every weekend and me during the week, we spend most of our spare time grass cutting ,petrol trimming and mending fences . Plus the cost of the upkeep.
Sadly we are moving closer to Oxford where prices tend to go up so finding the right place on budget will be no mean feat .. The hens are coming to near the end of life and in the last few days I've lost 2 more, ducks are a bit more strong than the hens and who knows how long a turkey lives for !!!
The two pigs are Mum and son and the 2 younger ones died the last 12 months so I'd expect to lose at least the Mum in couple of years and they are getting on now, they sleep and eat and maybe have a roll in the mud if they get hot .
The birds and pigs will be in the same enclosure after the move and feral cats live in the barn with the pigs now so they can all be housed in one outbuilding rather than separate houses... thankfully they all get on...well apart from the ferals and the dogs.. cats are wind up merchants who seem to love annoying the dogs at every opportunity
I'd like to plan some travel at some stage and my days of taking on every rescue are done, I'd hate to be ill and have to rely on others to take care of them all , so it's time to put the "NO Vacancy" sign up on the barn door . Sad but I have to be practical now

Not my dog but she thinks I belong to her. This is Stella, Jess’ housemates dog. Every time I go around she comes in for cuddles and scratches. She gives me a good sniff and the very few times I have been around other dogs and she’s caught a wiff, she’s got the sh*ts with me
I’ve dog sat her a few times up at my house. My kids love her and Byron will sit for hours patting her, which she doesn’t mind one bit.
