1984 and all that

Post by Kwacky »

Britain’s top counter-terrorism official has been forced to reveal a secret government policy justifying the mass surveillance of every Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Google user in the UK.

A witness statement from Charles Farr, the director general of Security and Counter Terrorism, explained how intercepting tweets, Google and YouTube searches and Facebook posts was permitted by law due to their classification as 'external communications'.

It's frightening how much we're watched. I don't suppose there's much we can do without anyone looking in on us. There was a programme on C4 last night about CCTV and its use. Most of the cameras are privately owned. One guy in a residential street has £5k worth of equipment and he posts the videos up on YouTube. Most of the footage he posts is everyday stuff, like kids playing with a ball or students outside their house. He was a weirdo who knew all of the laws on surveillance and nuisance.
