Re: For fooks sake
I've got 2 choices:-
1. Continue with a full claim and get your bike repaired, pay your excess and your NCB will be affected. You can then approach the MIB and discuss with them about making an uninsured driver claim.
2. Withdraw your claim, pay for the repairs yourself and your NCB will not be affected. The incident will be a notification only.
What he doesn't say is that I can still go to the MIB to make a claim if I take option 2.
I'll speak with my lawyer to see what he says.

Re: For fooks sake
Policy excess is £300. Then there are the 2 years no claims I lose I need to make back plus I have to declare the claim for the next 3 to 5 years depending on the insurance company.
If everything is replaced then the cost DMC were going to charge to the insurers was going to be £1,283.07. That includes £350 for the spotlights which come as a single unit. There's only a scratch on the top of the light cowling, you can't see it. Also included is the handguard unit on the left which is another scratch yu can barely see, likewise the left crash slide.
DMC did me a quote at the time for just the cowling upper and side and the meter cover. With labour it was £566.60.

Re: For fooks sake
Sounds like £566 would be the easiest way out although by no way the fairest.
The whole losing no claims when it’s not your fault but they can’t find someone else to pay is so frustrating. I had the same my last car crash. A truck dropped diesel on a roundabout during a downpour and I was one of 4 cars in 2 mins that slid into the Armco. Doesn’t matter to the insurance company, my fault because there is no one else to claim off.

Re: For fooks sake
I've sent an email to my lawyer to see if they would deal with the MIB claim and an email to DMC to see if they've already got the parts. They were ordering everything once the insurance company approved the repairs.
If DMC can still do I t for £566 I'll probably do down that route.

Sounds like it all could have been a lot worse! Have you had a look on eBay to see if the parts are available? It won't be hard to fit body panels.

Whatever you decide I really hope it's as pain free as possible. Sounds lile whatever happens insurances will be the winner as it's on your record now

Re: For fooks sake
Yep, I could. But DMC have already placed the order for the parts. What I need to know is whether or not they can send back the parts I don't need.C00kiemonster wrote:Could you just buy the parts and fit yourself to save some more cash? Shouldnt be too hard?
Perkles has already offered to help with the fitting. But the bike needs to go in for a service and a new chain and sprocket set to be fitted so I'm tempted to let them do the work. Plus it means I get to play on another bike.
If it's left to me I'll take 4 months and I'll round off every bolt and screw I have to go near. Me and DIY aren't the best of friends.

Re: For fooks sake
If I go down the MIB route, I can't claim my policy excess - the MIB say tough luck.
if DMC can do it on the cheap I think that's going to be the way forward.
It fooks me right off that I've done fook all wrong and I'm the one suffering for it.

Unless they change the way accidents are dealt with we are all going to be risking it every time we ride or drive. It's ludicrous. Makes you want to drive round on cloned plates as even if they catch you the penalties are tiny
You have been very unlucky

Re: For fooks sake
Vehicles need to have insurance stickers or some proof of insurance on the vehicle. It's not like it's a new idea.
You take out a policy, you get a hard to replicate sticker to put inside your windscreen.

Re: For fooks sake
Couldn’t we incorporate that into showing whether a vehicle has an MOT as well?

Its what they do in France. A vignette on the windscreen for insurance and one for MOT.
You also have to carry all your documents for the car when driving and present them when asked (including accidents)
