you really think somebody will pay for your transport ?
regardless of who owns the transport it/they will need to be charged and we do not currently have the power generating capacity to do that , therefore it cannot happen on a scale that will make any difference .
Also if you don't own the transport what happens if you want to take a woman out for a drive down that secluded country lane you know , and what will happen to the dogging scene ?
No we will still have to pay. I can't see any point in me owning a vehicle that drives itself though. Autonomous taxis will save a huge amount of energy as not only can they double up on passengers but it will make everyone think about the costs and energy they are using.
We'll end up with mini buses but they'll collect you from your house rather than having bus stops. You use an app to book it and it'll tie it in with other passengers. The technology is already here. If you look at Uber you can see where the cars are. An onboard computer could work out a route and decide who to collect on the way.
You could have a nude passenger only service for your dogging needs.
Actually Jack car batteries can help with that. We don't have an energy shortage problem we actually have an excess of energy but no where to store it.
During off peak demand times a lot of renewable and gas power stations are turned off.
Not. The future doesn't seem very exciting. All risk and doing things for yourself engineered out.
What an exciting prospect
At least i'll be able to get around easily when i'm very old. I was however looking forward to being too old to drive properly and ploughing into a shop front or two as i get distracted
Trackdays will be around I suspect for some time to come. I have no idea what the future is for Companies like Ferrari, Porsche and Ducati. I guess they will end up being racing companies only. But then everything has a lifespan.
No doubt people thought coal mining was around for generations to come. Trump still thinks is is today but he is in a minority of one.
Batteries are another issue our current estimates on the amount of lithium left is not looking good , they are now looking at ways to extract it from seawater at 0.00...% and at what cost in money resources and energy? Hydrogen is the way forward imho its is readily available from water and when it burns it puts out - more water , but that will never happen as you cant make the sort of profit required to garner the investment into the technology . The other thing that bothers me is how are they going to replace the lost revenue to the exchequer after all 80% of fuel costs are duty ?

Porsche have announced they are pulling out of Le Mans to go to Formula-E
Audi have already gone , that only leaves Toyota as a works team and they are now evaluating their position in light of Porsche's decision. Thats the death of the LMP1 sportscars .
Hydrogen tax wont work with their current model though and we are still losing the exchequer revenues .
The other good thing about Hydrogen is that we still get an infernal combustion engine and most modern cars could easily be adapted to run on it , but you don't sell new cars like that ....
They'll be other sources of revenue, but overall costs of motoring will decrease - no need for signs and road furniture, reduced repairs, not having to deal with accidents, reduced police numbers, reduced paramedics, fewer council workers etc. The savings will be there. The Government knows this which automatic vehicles are being pushed forward,

And what will we do with all these unemployed people , what are all the professional drivers going to do , on the accidents front it would reduce them tremendously but I doubt it will eliminate them entirely every machine has a glitch now and then . Then we have the situation where you live at A and work at B , initially all is well but then the company operating the service says going to B is no longer profitable for us so we aren't going there ( much like many rural bus services ) ?
