A change is as good as a rest
Regular readers will know that work hasn't been great for me. I love what I do but my boss is a PITA and doesn't offer much in the way of support and development.
Anyway, I've kicked off at my annual appraisal and it's worked. I'm moving teams. We're having a shuffle and I'm going to work for another partner. She's not as senior as my current boss but that's actually a good thing as it means I could play catch up with her and then press to be a stand alone fee earner with my own team.
The move also means I get more contact with a couple of key clients, one of which I've worked for in the past. We recently lost a contract with them we're trying to get back, so I'm going to see if I can push myself to be involved in that effort.
My current boss has said nothing and to be honest I doubt he will.

This says a lot about him if you ask me.
Congrats though mate, you've obviously not been happy for a while so maybe this will kick things off for the better!

That's great news mate, I know you've been pressing for a change for a while.

Good stuff - change is a good thing. I've never understood doing the same thing for a long time. Sounds like you can focus on new challenges -

Glad you've got the move you kicked for Kwacky, never good working for a lacklustre boss, it kills your motivation for starters, fingers crossed you feel more valued and supported in your new role.

Re: A change is as good as a rest
Sorry for being late here mate but very big congrats. Very happy for you, it's been clear you haven't been happy for a while in some of your posts and you certainly have needed a change. Totally agree with Cav and Cavetroll the fact your boss said nothing says it's all, in all honesty I think that's very rude and certainly not what you want and expect from a boss. No point working for someone who doesn't apprieate you. Sure you don't need this but good luck with your new team and enjoy it. I'm certain you will progress more quickly and you will be a lot happier. When do you start in your new team

Re: A change is as good as a rest
So a quick update. Still no news on a move date but my new boss is keen for me to get started. So much so she wants me to co-present a conference for an existing client (new client for me) and to run a conference with a barrister. All this month. It's nice to feel useful.

Brilliant mate, so looks like you are already going up before even starting!! You've needed this and it's great that someone is taking the interest in you unlike your old boss. This is the start of bigger and better things mate

Re: A change is as good as a rest
That's great news, we spend so much of our life at work, to feel low there makes everything so much worse.
Feel valued and happy again at work puts a new spring into our steps.
Happy days.
If I was working Norwich next week then would have tried to meet up while your there...but I am not so I can't

Re: A change is as good as a rest
Bit of an update.
The Partner I work for is 4 months pregnant, so she's off on maternity leave in February.
Another partner is back in today after 15 months maternity leave, so I'll be working for her from February but as from now I'll be helping her out. She's actually the person I wanted to work for when I wanted a move, so things have worked out.
