Chain lube?
What do you guys recommend?
I've only been using a motul spray I had left over from the Daytona, but it's really tacky and tends to glue all the dust and crap to it.
I rarely ride in the rain, basically only if we get caught out on a ride.
I've done a bit of research but I reckon I'll get a better idea from you guys.
I might not be able to get the same brands here but I'm sure I can match the types.

Re: Chain lube?
I like my WD40 Chain lube (for dry use).. no fling off and it holds up well to 3 days on track in Spain (no need to lube it between days).
As for road riding stuff for all weathers I'd probably go with one of the commuter's opinions (i.e. Kwacky)

I was a big fan of dry lube on the MTB's, so will definitely look into that.Deegee wrote:Würth dry chain lube works best for me.

@Kwacky - Chain lube or Chain wax? The wax is meant for all weather and gets mixed reviews
@Deegee - I found that stuff used to fling like buggery all up the underside of my fairing

Re: Chain lube?
for Wurrh dry lube. Used it for years with minimal chain wear. No fling off and I always put plenty on. Great product.kiwikrasher wrote:I was a big fan of dry lube on the MTB's, so will definitely look into that.Deegee wrote:Würth dry chain lube works best for me.

Re: Chain lube?
Cav I've never had any fling off. My tip if it helps is lube the chain immediately after a ride. The chain is hot and the link clearances are therefore at their widest so lube gets right in deep on the o rings. It then sets befire yiur next ride and no fling off. Hope the above helps.Cav wrote:@Deegee - I found that stuff used to fling like buggery all up the underside of my fairing

Re: Chain lube?
That's how I do it and I even get a piece of cardboard, set the wheel spinning in gear and hold the cardboard lightly against the back of the chain on the sprocket to wipe off excess - works on the WD40 but not the Wurth stuff.Blade wrote:Cav I've never had any fling off. Motul - But get the Factory line race lube, not the road lube.

Re: Chain lube?
Doesn't look like we can get that here (and postage from U.K. Isn't economical) but from reading about it, it's a dry lube like DeeGee recommended.Kwacky wrote:I'm an Sdoc100 fan. It works for me.
This stuff is local and sounds similar to the products Kwacky and DeeGee recommended.

Re: Chain lube?
Ive been using the wd40 stuff same as Cav for about last year and not had any issues, personally wouldnt say its any better or worse than anything else ive used but does the job for me
Remember: If in Doubt use Full Throttle, It may not make the situation any better, But it will end the suspense...

Re: Chain lube?
To be honest I can't remember. I bought it in a pack of WD40 stuff.Cav wrote:@Kwacky - Chain lube or Chain wax? The wax is meant for all weather and gets mixed reviews
Chain cleaning and lubing is like tyres and running in threads. What seems to work for one person may not work for someone else. In my opinion making sure it's really clean before you apply the lube/wax is key for a decent chain life. How you apply as well, I spray downwards and at an angle away from me and at the bottom of the chain, rather than from the top as most people do. Whether it's more effective or not I can't say, but I have found that the lube lasts longer.
Like this guy
It's a PITA to be cleaning and lubing your chain all the time but if you don't do it the chains don't last very long.

Re: Chain lube?
I clean the chain every other application of lube - usually a bit dirty by this time anyway.
I've had over 2 or 3 years out of my chain including all the trackdays etc. and always spray on the inside of the chain for approximatley 2 revolutions of the chain

I never thought of that!! There's a few bicycle lubes I've tried in the past....hit & miss, same as actual m/c lube.

Re: Chain lube?
Wurth dry for me too, i put a good dose on before the Isle of Man and did most of the 400+ miles in rain/wet conditions so i was wondering how it would hold up, i got zero fling and zero chain rust.
Applied well and left to dry it works well.
